Anyone out there have any opinions on either bike? I havent ridden in a few years but looking at getting back into it. I've owned 600's and ridden many litre bikes before but looking at something a little more forgiving than a litre but also contemplating the 2k9 R1.

thoughts?

Sounds like you have no idea what you want.

600's are fun, but they're too much fun to ride fast cause they're so peaky. Litre bikes are good too, the 09 R1 is a sick bike, but the CBR1000RR is supposed to be the best new litre bike IIRC. I would get a GSX-R 750, they're bombproof. Also, the powerband is a little more linear, and litre-bikeish, but more forgiving than a 1000. I would have a gixxer 750 right now if I didn't ride with my wife on the back so much.

My 750 is an oldie but man do I ever enjoy the power delivery.

I could only imagine the new ones get better.

09+ R1 FTMFW! Even though I'm a suzuki guy, this is my next bike. Sounds insanse with aftermarket exhaust. Go check one out.

If you haven't done so already, make sure you ride an R6 before you buy it. I know personally, I found it incredibly uncomfortable to ride compared to pretty much every other 600.

HAH...i know, thats my problem. Each bike I'm looking at is great for its own reasons. The 600's i love for track days, so much fun to throw into corners. The 750's and 1000's I havent spent a ton of time on, I havent rode in about 5 years so I think I'm just a little worried that the new litres are a lot toucheir than they used to be. R1's used to have 130hp when I rode them not 170...

I'm drawn to the R1 due to the crossplane, man does that thing sound sexy. Sounds so much like a V4. Does anyone here have a bike with the pipes under the seat? Is there any concern for heat for rider and passenger? I could see the gf burning herself on the pipes getting on and off.

My cbr has undertail exhaust. No problems for my gf adoesnt stick out past the tail enough to burn yourself.

the undertail exhaust isnt really an issue; in the summer you can definitely feel the heat from the exhaust, but not enough to be a bother. and its pretty hard to burn yourself on it since its tucked under pretty good

Suzuki's have a lot of parts interchangeability among its various GSXR models. Thats one of the reasons people love them for race & track bikes. That may be a point of interest for you.
I'd almost avoid Yamaha's R6 line up. My buddy just spent $2500 on his thanks to that characteristic faulty crank bearing lubricating issue, one that should've been recalled by Yamaha but wasn't.
That and his bike is always breaking down with something.:nut:

You may want to take a look at a new Triumph Daytona 675 as well. The mid-range of a liter bike, but the practicality & predictability of a 600. I now have 20k on mine, and nothing but absolute praise for it. It just pulls like a freight train from 2k rpm and up. Not as much torque as V-twin, but its still quite a change from the various CBR's & R6's and ZX6R's I've ridden.

I think you'd enjoy the powerband of the 750 more than that of the R6. But if you are looking for a 600, consider the new ZX6R. It won most of the shootouts last year.

The 750 is a great package overall. The only knock I have on it is that everyone seems to own a Gixxer. If that doesn't bother you then I'd say go for the 750 (over the R6).

i have an 05 R6 and its definitely not the most comfortable bike out there. ive never ridden a gixxer but ive sat on plenty and its definitely the most comfortable sport bike ive been on. if it were me, i would go with the gsxr750.

Lots of Gixxers on the road, but not so many Katana's :) If it's comfort you're after, then you can't beat it.

^^^i see what you did there. katanas are definitely decent bikes if you like touring bikes. if hes looking for an r1 or gsxr, hes probably not into a touring.

03ozwhip, Can't blame a guy for trying can you? ;)

All kidding aside, it's a pretty comfy sport tourer, and they've got enough performance in them to be fun to play with. I'd happily keep it if wasn't for physical issues.

^^^not at all lol ive ridden a katana and its a comfy bike but the styling isnt for everybody.

so it sounds like my decision is more between the R1 or 750...any thoughts on the new gsxr 1000?

I'd go for a new R1, that planar crank is amazing for traction in the corners. Besides, what is there to trade up to?

Personally I love my 07 R6. Wouldnt trade it for anything in the world. No reliability issues. No comfort issues.

I love it.

I'd like to move up to a 1000 from my 60 gixxer 750.

I've ridden pretty much every sportbike made in the last 20 years and the new GSXR750 is in my top 3 favorite sportbikes for sure. If I was to rank them as bang for the buck I would put the 750 #1 every time.

R6 is a peaky bastard, takes work to ride it fast.

Best of all worlds, size and weight of a 600, and 5-6 year old literbike power (130ish hp). It's a winner.

One thing no one here is mentioning: it doesn't matter what bike it is, it all comes down to the rider.. put a fast guy on a 10 year old 600 and he'll destroy a slow rider on a brand new 1000 everywhere but in a straight line.

Sorry for the sidetrack, I'm just curious though: Are you talking 130ish whp? or at the crank? Factory specs on my '01 R1 say it has (/had) 150hp at the crank

i'm leaning heavily towards picking up the gsxr 750 even as a second bike. i made my decision ont he first one and that is a triumph street triple r. i want the gsxr 750 as a second bike that i can track, if only i could find a blue and white one, seems like everyone has black but no blues left.

Get the black, they're way sicker. Too many blue/whites on the road anyway.

My last 01 R1 (best of the 3 I had) dyno'd on our dynojet at 127 RWHP with around 60ish ft/lbs of tq. The last stock GSXR750 we did had around 125ish, I'll check the dyno computer for tq, gimmie a second

I see, I see. Well, to further sidetrack this thread I have one more question for you... I have a 4-2-1 D&D header and exhaust, and a Dynojet stage 1 jet ket... do you think this is actually adding any power? My guess was minimal amounts, maybe 5 hp.

Sorry guys, back to OP's topic after this, I promise

Do it man!

Kevin, I'll have to stop on by one of these days so you can take my 675 for a rip, perhaps when its nicer out, its still chilly and the asphalt is cold & covered in gravel. :(

I'm really tempted, I'm sure there's some deals to be had, from what ive heard a lot of dealers have a bunch of 09 750's in stock. i cant wait to pick up the street triple though.

^ I hope you dont mind the high(er) seat though, if you have stumpy legs it may be a bit of a problem. I think my seat is the highest of the 600-750 class. If that isn't a problem (it isn't at all with me) then I think you'll absolutely love it.

Nah, that honor goes to the R6 I think. 33.5 inches vs. 32.7 on the Daytonas, based on this year's models.

Both are still tall, for me and my short legs anyways. lol

yeah im loving the triple so far. just want a sportbike now :)
im 6'2" so i dont usually have an issue with any of the bikes out there.

there's some killer deals on remaining stock from 07-09 on all bikes right now.

Same here. I put 8000 kms on mine last summer and I've already put 1000 kms on it this year.

It's been perfect.

I'm in love with the the looks of the '09 R6, and I hope to buy it this year. So ... I'm happy to have read this post. :) The comfort details were worrying me.

The other bikes, as fabulous as they sound, just don't do it for me. I sit on the R6, and I get tingles. It feels like it was made for me ... of course, a showroom isn't the road at rush hour. Thanks to this thread, I'll make sure to go on a test drive.
