Rekeying locks

Just wondering if anyone here has ever rekeyed the locks to their home and how much it cost to do?

Also looking for some locksmith recommendations that do rekeying - looking to rekey five locks.

If these are just standard store brands, try bringing them to Home Depot. They've got kits to do this... Sometimes if you're buddies with the guy/gal in that department they'll just do it for you. (i.e. happened to me when I was doing reno, and was there every single day getting stuff, so re-keying 2 locks for me wasn't a big deal for him)

We had 3 locks re-keyed and had 4 sets of keys made for approx $130 by Aboe Lock Works.

Went and visited my friendly neighborhood Totem - rekeying 5 locks is $50.00. Replacing them with new locksets that are all keyed the same is $90.00 - will go with the second option as some of the current locksets are somewhat finicky.

Take them to Rona to get it rekeyed. Its $8 per cylinder and I'm sure if you bring in 8 the guy could just charge you for half of them. They couldn't recut a key for me so they rekeyed and threw in a few keys free of charge.

Problem is some of the locksets are old and finicky - if I'm going to take the time to uninstall them and have them rekeyed, then I'll put in new locks that work effortlessly.

I replaced all my locks with the Weiser Smart Key system. They're pretty resistant to picking, and bump proof. Plus now rekeying is a breeze.

Can you just bring in the entire knob to Rona/Home Depot/Totem, or do you have to partially disassemble it first?
