there have been a couple of other threads on breakfast sandwiches, and one beyonder mentioned that he cracks an egg in a coffee cup and nukes it. i just tried this for 45 seconds and the dang egg exploded in the microwave. i didn't scramble it first, just broke the yolk. is there some trick to getting it to not explode?

oh, and sorry for the new thread, but I couldn't find the old one(s)

thanks

I cook it on low for a longer time, take it out every 30 or 40 seconds to shake it in the cup. And I use a tim hortons coffee cup with lid

how long you need to put the egg in the microwave will depend on your microwaves power. you'll have to simply try it a few times til you get it right. when i do this i brush a little butter on the inside of my mug to make sure it comes out clean, add the egg, scramble it with a fork and nuke for 1 minute.

I have on of these:

it works amazing - i nuke the egg for 40 seconds or so, scrambled first. it comes out easily, is easy to clean and tastes great. I eat one every morning at work.

i scramble it in a bowl, then pour it in to a lightly greased container that's the right size for your bagel/toast/wherever you're putting it on, then nuke it for 45 seconds, watching it and if it gets too puffy i open the microwave and stab it a couple of times with a fork to let the pressure out.

I just throw two eggs into a small coffee mug, scramble it up, add a little bit of milk and then put it into the microwave for a minute, beat it up a little more, and then a minute again - then just plop it on a slice of cheese on a sandwich to let it melt - top with bacon or sausage.

These are awesome - we've got 2 and use them all the time. Makes a perfect poached egg every time.

I also do about 30 seconds on medium power, and then 15 seconds on high, but it would depend on your microwave.

I use a plastic egg poacher that has spots for 2 eggs. It is completely enclosed so even if it explodes it's not a big deal.

I also brush a bit of butter to have it slide out easier.

I used to do that that coffee mug egg thing but then switched to poached eggs. Tastes much better, is almost just as easy (just have to put your water on the stove earlier).

The only downside is that its messier to eat, so can't eat it on the go or in the car.

I picked up this 2 egg poacher by nordicware from walmart, works awesome. little bit of pam in the bottom, break the yokes of the eggs, but don't beat them, then put a little salt and pepper and nuke them for 2 minutes. they turn out the perfect size for english muffins. the odd time they explode, but it is all contained in the unit.

wtf... this is crazy. I was just thinking this morning about how to do this so I could make breakfast sandwiches at work.

Toast english muffin
microwave some backbacon (rolled in cornmeal)
microwave an egg (this was the part I was trying to figure out)
Put together with a slice of cheese.

yea dude, i've been doing this for the last few days and it's fucking awesome. not to mention cheap... I haven't worked out the exact costs, but i'm guessing it's not more than $0.75 or $1 per sandwich. and i even buy the super expensive eggs (you know, the ones where the yolk is actually orange haha).

nordic also has a bacon cooker / egg poacher combo, if you break the yokes a little, they turn out pretty close to an egg mc muffin minus the processed taste and grease

Does your office have a cook top? mine sure does not.

nonlinear - you're right. It's awesome - especially after I added a slice of back bacon and cheese. I'm going to be doing this every morning now.

I've been doing this for a few months now.
Melt a 1/4 tsp of margarine in a ramekin.
Scramble in an egg with 1/2 tsp of milk.
Grind in a little S&P.
Cover with paper towel and microwave for 1 minute on high.

Done perfectly every time.

I put it on a couple pieces of toast or an English muffin with a cheese slice. Quick, cheap breakfast.

My old toaster made egg sandwiches, until I realized I could do it just as fast in a pan...

1. Spray Pam in bowl, wipe down with paper towel
2. Crack egg into bowl
3. Add a splash of milk
4. Just Beat It, Beat It, Beat It, Beat It...
5. Microwave for 15s (YMMV)

Done!
