It's about time they're stepping up the GTI... The GTI was king for quite a few years, but now it's just lumped in with the rest of the average sport compacts.

I often wonder which car started the race for the most powerful sport compact. I know the SRT4 has done it's part but it's definitely not one of the inital contenders. But maybe the si-R and ITR's started it?

I guess that is why they don't import the R32 on Old golf body... :(

ah the good old R32, its just a 20AE GTI with another bumper and exhaust or something like that. i know its not the same as a R32. but they are all nice cars... im still in-differ about the golf V. they look way to much like a civic...

Ok..listen up.

If anybody knows how to bring the R32 to Canada, please let me know.

He is what I have found out.

It is not being sold in Canada.
It cannot be imported from the US. (Transport Canada's list says it is "inadmissible.")

I have contacted both Transport Canada and the Registrar for Imported Vehicles, and both have no data regarding why the vehicle is not admissible.

They advised me that VWAG did not submit the car for testing for the Canadian Market.

So I contacted VW of America/Canada. They had no information, they were no help. Nothing about bumpers, insurance etc.

According to a source that works within VW (a "friend"), VW made an embarrassing choice not to make the car available in Canada. He was personally disappointed and embarrassed at the 2004 International Auto Show in Toronto.

And they will not give me a reason why i cannot purchase one over the border and bring it here. I could theoretically purchase any 2004 VW from the US and bring it over, except the R32.

If enough people petition, I believe it will have an impact on VW. But the R32 will probably be obselete next year, and will not be sold worldwide. (The 'all new Golf' will supercede it).

My family has owned VWs exclusively since 1990.

I may be breaking that link because of VW's stupidity. They build what I want, but can't sell it to me because I'm a few hours driving distance on the 'wrong' side of the border.

The car meets and exceeds Canadian safety regulations (except the speedometer......big deal).

Give me a reason why I can't buy what I want!?

Thanks for printing my Rant.

Actuall the main Transport Canada requirement they fail was the Front bumber design. TC has a new thing where it needs to be a certain % of the frontal area covered by the bumber. This is also one of the main reasons the Evo is inadmisable in Canada as well. Why would a company spend hundreds of thousands of euros to re-design the bumber to meet one countrys requirements, especially if that Country is Canada where at best the sales #'s would be lacking compared to other markets(face it, it's the truth)

1. Its against the law to bring the car up.

2. The R32 as sexy a car as it is and sounds, did not pass front crash standard testing here in Canada...

3. VW made the choice not to fix the issues stopping its importation not Transport Canada...

Hope this helps you man sorry you cant have the R32...
