Can anyone recommend the best way to remove the dealer name tag (raised lettering which looks like it has been glued on)? It's been on the car for 8 years, but i would like to try and remove it without damaging the paint? Any advice would be appreciated?

Thanks for the quick turnaround - much appreciated! I understand the "apply high heat and remove" and will give that a shot...

You may need to work some fishing line behind it after it's been heated up.

Edit, BALLS!!!! beaten to the punch.

I think the fishing line will only work for the rigid badges. For that it works wonders!

Heat and peel. Use a little accetone or nail polish remover to get the residue off. Dont forget to reapply wax after your done.

One thing to mention about goo gone, make sure after you have rubbed it in, you rinse the area with water. I have seen it peel clear coat when a guy didnt rinse it off.

GOO-Gone and fishing line works like a dream, I didn't use a heat gun but I found a good way to get off any glue residue is to use a cd, it doesn't scratch the paint but it had a nice sharp edge to get all the big chunks off.

- some form of heat (e.g., hair dryer, heat gun, etc..). Use it sparingly and don't go right up to it - I've seen people wrinkle their paint from too much heat

- use some dental floss and gently 'saw' it off

- goo-gone or similar to remove residue

You'll have to polish the area when finished because if it's been there 8yrs chances are there's some ghosting left behind. Not to mention any damage you do when trying to remove it (good chance ot micro-marr the clearcoat, which is easy to fix with a quick polish)

After 8 years you guys don't think there will be paint damage?

I remember on my old cutless, the heat just loosened it up and when I washed it the Shaganappi GM thing right off, and it took the paint right with it, the car was a 1993.

It shouldn't - the worst is ghosting that you polish off.

Now that being said, it is possible ot have paint damage, but with today's clearcoats it would be very very very very very rare. In terms of the cutless, it's not surprising that you were able to peel the paint off (probably crappy single stage paint that was abused wayyyy back in the day when paint quality wasn't all that great).

Hate the dealer name tags and dealer plate frames, looks nice removed. I once saw a truck with dealer stickers on each front quarter panel and on the rear window. All together, six dealer advertising points including the front plate area.

I ordered my new car without any of that crap and told the sales guy if any remained it was a deal breaker.
