alright....on my other (good/primary) computer I got the virus called w32.hllw.Studd (also known as duster)

pretty sure I got it by using stupid kazaa....

I CANNOT get norton antivirus to open so I can run a full scan.....my pc is running at a stand still, it has completely slowed down and now takes like 5 minutes to do anything

In start menu I click on Norton Antivirus to open it, then the mouse turns into the little hourglass and then nothing happens. I hit ctrl + alt+ del and I can see that it says "NMAIN.exe" as an open process (which is norton antivirus maiin program...)

I try and end that process but it won't let me

WHAT TO DO!!!!!

any help will be appreciated.........

When all else fails I use the virus program off of Microtrends website. You know it's going to be clean and I have had it pick several virus in the past after norton's says my system is clean. And best of all it's free!

Have you scanned for spyware at all? If you haven't, download Ad-Aware

speedracer: I used spybot....didn't work very well. Problem still existed

The adware program got rid of the problem first try.....GONE!

I think the best way to fix these type of problems would be running a combo of both so one of them has a chance of picking up the things the first one missed

If you want to double check to see if Norton missed anything you can also go here.

http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm

Free virus scanner and cleaner you can use this if norton can't open again.

I had Norton for 5 years and panda titanium for the last year. I won't go back to Norton.

If you're a U of C student, you can download a free version of McAfee as well as updates from the U of C's webpage:

http://www.ucalgary.ca/it/virus

You'll need your U of C IT username and password to get access to it though.
