The EXP is a REALLY old escort. THey were only offered for a couple of years. I believe (but I'm not totally sure) they were using the same 2.3L turbo four that the SVO Mustang and T-Bird Turbo Coupe were using (150hp or so I think they were rated at).

Does it actually have the 2.0L turbo under the hood? or is it just a XR4Ti converted to look like a cosworth?

ah ha! i have found out that The EXP was introduced in 1982 with only one model, the sport coupe, and only with the base 1.6L engine. This remained unchanged until production was cut short during the ’83 model year. The EXP was effectively reintroduced in 1984, now offered in 3 forms: the base model, Luxury Coupe, and the Turbo Coupe. This continued into 1985, where again, production was cut short at midyear. The EXP was reintroduced again for 1986, now with a 2-model lineup: the sport coupe and the luxury coupe. The sport coupe was basically an Escort GT in the EXP body shell, whereas the luxury coupe was an Escort LX in an EXP body shell. The sport coupe was carried though the ’87 model year, but the ’88 and ’88.5 was offered only as a luxury coupe.

The 1.6L engines came in 4 forms: the base 1.6L, the 1.6L HO, the 1.6L EFI, and the 1.6L Turbo. The base 1.6 and the HO were both carbureted, while the EFI and Turbo both had a multiport fuel injection similar to the later 1.9L EFI HO (although the manifolds were different). The base engine was rated at 70 HP through ’82 and 72 HP in ‘83; the HO was introduced in ’83 and used a 2 bbl carburetor to made 80 HP. This became the base engine in ‘84. Also introduced in ’83 was the EFI version, which was first available on the Escort GT, rated at 88 HP. For 1984, the turbo version of the 1.6L was introduced on the EXP, and then extended at midyear to the GT. These were rated at 120 HP and 120 lb-ft of torque.

all of my info i found at www.fordexp.com

might be fun to bomb around in, but IMO the earlier model style looks a wee bit on the ugly side
