ok... so I'm considering buying an Audi A4 (probably like a 2000/01) and I'm hung up on whether to go for the 1.8T or the 2.8. I know if I'm gonna do any engine mods the 1.8 is the way to go, but I'm not sure what would be involved in that or how much it would cost. I just think if I'm goin' outta-the-box I'm probably better off with the 2.8, cause I'd never be satisfied with the 1.8 untouched. Experience/advice??

1.8T is a fun peppy car to drive :)

A couple years ago I took both for test drives. Personally, I enjoyed driving the 1.8T 100x more than the V6, mainly due to the nature of the turbo car.....If I recall, the 1.8T actually felt quicker anyways.
From what I 've heard/read, the 1.8T responds very well to mods, also getting you more bang for your buck when it comes to aftermarket performance for both motors. On the otherhand, if you were to throw a turbo or S/C on the 2.8, it would definitely be the car to have.

i would go with the 1.8T... quick enough for now and leaves you with tonnes of options for the future...

Here is a link (http://www.audizine.com/sites/?catid=1) to Audi tuners and parts. These sites will give you an idea how much it'll cost to mod.

Couple of Audi forums:

you just have to know that it wont really be a fast car as it kind of a heavy mobile for a 1.8l engine. having said that, it is a good engine and there is quite a bit of aftermarket for it. good luck making your choice.

AUDI's sure are nice...
i would personally go with 1.8T
just a suggestion though...
they are better on gas than 2.8
and again its up to you..
aynways i would say go and ask some dealers about this....or some experts in person...they will give you proper details..
