I think it's pretty good looking, in pictures anyways. I think chevy completely missed the boat on the rest of the truck though...

Its a cool design, but I really think GM is starting to just copy what all the other manufacturers are doing. The SSR seems to be a cash-in on the retro craze, and that's fine, plenty of companies are doing that (VW's Beetle, Chrysler's PT Cruiser, BMW's Mini cooper, etc.). It just seems out of line with what everyone else is doing. The other companies are bringing out their retro cars with a close eye on value where the SSR seems to be priced at a horrendous premium. :dunno: $75,000 for a weird looking truck - take away the fact that its weird looking and what do you have left? A beefed up S platform truck which even if you are generous would only justify a $35,000 price tag. So is remaining $40,000 a fair price to make the truck look different?

Strangely enough, I have the same beef about the new T-bird, but I'll leave that for another thread ;)

There ya go. 300hp, and a magic folding top that retracts in 30 seconds. And at Chevys list price of 42000 USD it comes out to 55000 CAD, I'm not sure where 75 is coming from, maybe fully loaded/dealer markup?

It's right from the manufacturer's website. Starting from $69, 995. I know its rare for cars to go for sticker but still I can't see them taking $20,000 off. Maybe our American friends are getting a much better price on this vehicle? Or maybe there are some high cost modifications done to make it Canadian friendly (Stainless steel exhaust perhaps? who knows? :dunno: ).

On a side note, this is one more RWD american car with a solid rear axle - I guess the NA manufacturers are getting back to basics

Its based on the new trailblazer platform. They are using the 4wd hubs up front, (looked underneath and you can see a big splined hole in the hub still :D)... this makes me wonder when the AWD version will come out.. The car is made cheeply in my mind.. the hood has a prop rod... for that price, a shock or spring to hold it up would better, the rear fendermoldings are only 2 sided taped on... and i know thoes are going to peel :D... the design not to great. The one i am working on has like 50km on it, (not yet delivred) and the fender moldings are chipped to hell (worse than my trailblazer was before the running boards where put on)...

Although i have many beefs with it, once you get it and drive it, its not to bad, nice exaust note, but thats about it :D...

And the fact that there are no parts relaesed for it other than name plates scares me.. if you get in an accident with it.. you will be wating awhile for parts :D

Ya its not a truck that i would buy. But i mean the Idea is cool they just needed to shoehorn in that Z06's Engine with the 405hp

and maybe a manual tranny. and a price tag lower then 60 grand

Haha, that is chevy's answer for the camaro. At least pontiac got the GTO. Old design, but the price should be in the right range.

Remember that GM probably set the price of the vehicle when we had a $0.62 dollar. That would bring $42,000USD to $67,000CDN.

All our cars are overpriced now.

Sorry, monaro is the correct spelling.. The Commodore is a 4dr pl using a ecotec version of our 3800 series II, our 3800 Supercharged motor, and the Vette 5.7 (only in the ss)....

The Monaro is 2 dr, with the 5.7

Opel Omega = Holden commodore = Cadillac Catera

The monaro is just a 2 dr version of the commodore...

The Oz monaro = GTO.

Opel Omega is from the early 90's

The GTO's design has been around that long and recycled a few times now.

It looks odd in pics, almost as if Chevy took it's pontiac ( Aztek, Sunfire) designers to help with this modern day El comino.. (spelling?)
