Although i am still most likely selling my car. I came across some pics of an MK1 MR2 made into a convertable and i Think it looks sweet!. The actual time needed to do the conversion isnt all that bad, apx. a solid weekend, I would just need to find somewhere that could custom make the soft-top and find out for how much?:dunno:
The Pics of the Black MR2 is my car now, the Red ones are what it could look like!:bigpimp: I think just the fact of how rare this would be would make it worth while! leave your opinion , thanks.

if I were you Id leave it how it is, turning a car in a convertible really affects the handlign in a negative way and affects the structural integrity of the car. If your mar2 was miled out, beat to shit and you had naother car then id say go for it because you're goign to need to strip it down and add alot of metal bars and frame support to prevent body flex

Yeah, the thing i forgot to mention was you can add the "S2000 style" rollover bars and it is supposedly just as strong as stock.
If I were to do this, I would have to have another car for sure, just for the Winter while I did the conversion, I just need to find out how much the soft top would cost, any idea?:dunno:

A proper roll over bar to make sure you stay safe in that sort of event would correct most of those problems.

That actually looks really good, which surprised me... if you can make sure the structure of the car is not compromised, i.e. added S2000 rollover bars etc, then I would say go for it

and dont even bring up the s2k. its x-bone chassis is tha pimp motha and no mr2 would ever be that strong..i think the s2k is smaller than the mr2 as well, so its a bit more tossable..

Depends on how they are designed. To use the miata as an example, adding a simple 4 point roll bar like the ones offered by Hard Dog can give you a 50% increase in torsional rigidity. The design of an item like that is everything, as to whether it actually does something other than keep you safe in a crash.

And incidentally, that generation of MR2 is shorter than the S2000. The wheelbase is about 3 inches shorter (91.3 vs 94.5) and the overall length is about 7 inches shorter (155.5 vs 162.2). However the track on the S2000 is much wider (1" at the front and 3" at the rear), and the car overall is wider by over 3". Gotta love carpoint eh? :D

The MR2 and S2000 are both quite nimble cars, excellent handlers. Although the S2000 has a definite edge here thanks to a 15 year newer suspension design and larger, wider tires.
