Reading the Calgary Sun today I came across this article:

New tool to track down illegal downloaders (http://www.calgarysun.com/entertainment/movies/2010/03/31/13422966.html)
Why, why WHY do we continually hear this when it pertains to us Canadians. You would think the Sun would put forth a little more "responsible journalism" and include the fact that this whole article is completely moot for Canadians.
Back in Dec 2003 the "Copyright Board of Canada" ruled that downloading media with such software as P2P, is completely LEGAL. That is why at the same time they imposed a levy on memory inside MP3 devices. As well, the Supreme Court of Canada upheld the CBoC's ruling. Recording companies and Movie companies are continually trying to change that for Canada..and they very well might...in the future.

Canada is pretty much alone in this ruling...but as it stands for now....downloading is legal inside Canada.

The Sun has never been, and never will be, a publication that is worth reading for anything else other than sports scores and girls who pay to pose for readers. IIRC the sports section is a few times the size of the actual news.

Every year the Sun tries to pull an april fool's on readers, but they usually have a wierd name in the article(last year's was about dogs and they quoted Dr. Jack Russell), and a number to call and complain. That number then informs you you've been fooled.

Their April fools article is the one about the gov't taxing the internet to help pay down national debt.

Also, the levy doesn't apply to MP3 media, they tried it, but it was successfully challenged and struck down.
