Hey everybody,

So I get my car back from the alignment shop (they also balanced my wheels)

I needed to take off my wheels to do some work on my car, so I come to loosen my lugnuts, and what do you know, the lugnuts are way over torqued :whipped:

In my attempt to loosen the lugnuts I broke my key

So I was just wondering if someone would be kind enough to let me borrow their key, it is a 8 sided star, and if someone has one for sale even better, I'll gladly buy it off of you.

Anybody know if there are any stored or shops that sell these locally?

Cheers

You might try a place like Kal Tire, but I don't think there's just 1 variation of an 8-sided key.

What usually works well for people is to smash on/weld a socket and pull it out, if you can get one on there.

This is why I always remove locking lugs from my rims - if a thief wants them that badly, he can have them .... all they do is frustrate the user to no end (I had to play smashy-smashy with mine once when the lug got rounded)

I believe Princess Auto used to carry a locking lug nut removal kit

How about a mention of the shop, so we can avoid your pain. I have shops hand tighten my lugs, no air tools please.... been where you've been a few years ago.

Progress update as well please.

It's the tire shop in black diamond, I went there because it's close to my work.

And I don't really want to use the lug nut remover from PA because it'll probably destroy all my lug nuts, if anything I need the key so I can tighten the wheel back on so at least my car is drivable while my new key comes in ( I ordered it online, will take about 2 weeks)

You can get a special tap to take the nut off but your going to need new lug nuts after.

Its probably going to be easier to just tap off the nut and buy a new pair.

ive encountered this style at the shop before, i THINK i used a 3/8 drive to get them off, If you look closely then you will notice that all it is is a double square, a 3/8 drive square will fill in 4 of 8 corners

btw: replacements are available at CMS, or any parts store IF the guy behind the counter isnt a lazy bastard and is willing to open up a book to find one for you
