View Full Version : Shopping in an Elise is a weird experience.

We went for a drive and decided we needed a new dog bed, then we picked out the biggest one we could find without really understanding how small the car we were driving is.

This isn't the first time I've experienced this problem, med/rear engine vehicles are fun but the practicality takes a hit.

Ya, I looked at the little trunk, then at the dog bed and I definitely had a FUUUUU moment. When we finally got it into the car I had to move it out of the way when I wanted to shift.

My buddies 2001 GSXR-750 we fit a mini tent in the tail section. It wasn't a normal bike tail section, so much room.

I see your useless bike ... trunk ..... and raise you an even more useless trunk. I can fit anything I want into mine. As long as it fits between the radiator and the steering rack.

The one time I drove an Elise I had to lift my right leg in the air so I could get it into reverse without the shifter hitting my knee

This meant I couldn't have my foot on the gas and be in reverse at the same time, so I could never reverse up a hill. Just slipped the clutch to back up super slow on the flats. (I'm 6'7 to explain the problem).

In my car right now the bottle depot was pretty impressed when I got $83 in empties into it in one load. The trunk turned into a tetris game of cases full of empties, 3 huge bags in the back seat, one huge bag on the passenger seat, and a couple more cases on the floor

You don't need a dog bed, the car itself will do the trick:

I know the feeling, I could barely fit my hockey stick in my evo, thankfully the trunk was so massive, I never faced trying to fit everything in the back seat.

Beautiful car, but I need my trunk space to much to drive a mid engine.

The room in the 996 body style is alot better imo than the 993, but it still is nowhere near comfortable. with the driver seat at the lowest setting a 6'2"-3"person should have just enough head room. to fit a person in the back their neck needs to be bent at 90 deg and the passenger seat has to be moved up and forward all the way which gives a 5'9" person room issues both leg and head ha ha. the back can be made a little more comfortable in the person sit/lays across both sides.
As far as trunk space goes I believe both are fairly comparable I think mine is 1 ft long by 3 ft wide by 2 ft deep approx.

After working in yellowknife and seeing the porsche testing there in winter I figured why not. I have a 4s which is perfect, I like the AWD better in this than the AWD in my STI or BMW 3 series, and more than the 4x4 in my jeep grand cherokee, Dodge 3500 or Tundra. My only regret was putting it on eurospec springs and not keeping the stockers to raise it back up in winter.

The funniest was when my passenger had a golden retriever sitting on her lap in the s2000. The dog loved it having his head out the top of the car.
Now having a honda pilot for a second car is awesome! No awkward trips to home depot now.

My cousin owns a few fountain tires here in edmonton so finding a tire at a decent price wasn't too hard. there were only really 2 tires available that I could find in a 285/35/r18 for the rear though, a Pirelli which i really didnt like the look of and the Dunlop graspic wintersport 3d which I got and absolutely loved.
I am one of very few people who dislike nokians though. I find that even in edmonton it is really not that cold most days and rarely is there tonnes of snow on the road. my neighbor is a retired guy who plows our street and driveways every snowfall at 5 am before I leave. out of my crescent it is a bus route which if it is not plowed, it is well graveled and that will take me all the way to school.
I will agree that the nokian is a very grippy soft snow and ice tire. but it is soooo frickin mushy and sloppy feeling. I dont like sacrificing this in a tire for it being good in conditions we rarely see. On my STI I had run 4 different winter tires ( a non studded nokian, dunlop wintersort 3d graspic d2, and michline X ice), and my favorite was the Dunlop Graspic D2 for a balance between Ice and snow traction and performance. I would have preferred the D2 on the porsche but they did not come in my sizing.

Thanks, I love the Evo. BTW, I don't know if you remember but we've met, I used to organize the NSX meets in Chestermere. I keep thinking I should start organizing those Chestermere Landing Pub meets again.

The NSX was amazing and I do miss it, I almost bought a supercharged NSX-T when I was looking at the Elise, but decided to try something new. The biggest problems I had with the NSX are the same I have with the Elise; not enough power especially at our elevation in stock form and it's hard to get a good exhaust sound from them. I plan to fix both problems on the Elise in time.

It was a nice place and with when I set things up ahead of time they were very accommodating, we had 35 people the one day.
