aiming for 550whp? only? given some of the numbers those cars have put down, it seems like a lot of effort with minimal result? depending on how much weight is shaved, I guess?

They couldn't at least do it to a 6 month old one? Almost painful.
3908 lbs though.... Those cars aren't light :D

Well AMS has had more success tuning the R35 GT-R then almost anyone. They already built the world's fastest 1/4 mile R35, breaking into 9 seconds in a full weight GT-R. So they probably wanted a more track oriented setup and to further development their suspension and chassis mods with this build.

power isnt everything in making a car fast around a curcuit.

550whp will be reliable and with the proper suspension/wheel/tire and brake setup will be more then plenty.
