===================

For the East:

- I'm cheering for Washington or Montreal to go for the cup.
- I like Flyers more.
- Even though Sabres have Miller between the pipes, he doesn't have a great team in front of him, so I'll go for Boston. Plus, Raask and Thomas are a great tandem.
- Crosby, Malkin, Fleury. Enough said.

For the West:
- San Jose is going to have a workout but they'll sweep against the Av's.
- Chicago have been stellar during the season, so hopefully they make it through.
- Hate the Canucks and don't care for the Kings.
- As much as I want to root for the underdogs, Detroit will squeak through.

hahaha... they're pretty high... I believe the Hawks & Caps are the most likely Cup Final scenario and I could see Washington taking the trophy... in a bitter 7-game series to boot.

On the contrary, they'll put up a good game I want them to go far, I mean if Bettman wants them to go far, they'll get the opportunity to do so. Playing on the conspiracy theoriest around here.

So how did you guys do last round? I was pretty off on the number of games but did get 6/8 winners.

This round, I'll personally be cheering for the Habs again, but the Pens will take that one. Detroit looked pretty good last round, I see them upsetting the Sharks. And as always, fuck the Nucks!

I didn't expect Philadelphia to wrap it up that quick, but I was 6/8 too.

Totally called Boston and Chicago though.

EAST
Boston vs Philadelphia (3-4)

Pittsburgh vs Montreal (4-2)

WEST
San Jose vs Detroit (1-4)

Chicago vs Vancouver (4-3)

=============
The East will be the fun games and it'll be very exciting, for sure.

Boston-Philly will probably go 7 because Philly is a gritty team and Boston beat Ryan Miller. Then again, the Sabres couldn't score much against Rask...

I like Crosby-Malkin-Fleury tandem but this will be a close one. Halak played phenomenal and I don't care who wins this; I'm rooting either one for the Cup.

The Sharks are going to have fun with Jimmy Howard between the pipes, but this is going to be a boring one.

I hate Luongo and the Canucks.

Yeah, and his save % against them was .893, he had some good games, but that percentage is pretty shitty. Good enough for 14th in these playoffs
http://www.nhl.com/ice/app?component=completeSavePercentageLeaderList&page=statshome&service=direct

Look at his entire season, some great games and a lot of awful ones for a slightly above average year.

Boston beats Philly in 7 games
Detroit beats SJ in 5 games

Luongo > Niemi right? haha

What makes you say that? Their numbers during the season and playoffs are almost identical except Luongo played more games during the season but Niemi's playoffs numbers are better, though again, Niemi had some great and some shitty playoff games just like Luongo.

Before anyone says anything about the caliber of teams both goalies faced, Nashville scored more 5 on 5 during the regular season and playoffs, the difference was the Kings PP which was good and Nashville's was terrible.

Yeah I'm going with Habs all the way. They've got the momentum now. They took down one titan, they'll take down another.

San Jose - Chicago Western Final

Philly - Montreal Eastern Final

San Jose - Montreal Finals

That would be great. Throwback to the 80's showdowns they had.

As much as I like some of the Chicago players (Toews, Keith, Hossa etc) I really hope Phily wins the cup. Here is why:

Whenever a team wins the cup, they become the blueprint everyone tries to be like. The 07 Ducks are a good example. They were a big tough team who led the league in fights and penalty mins, and people then tried to build teams like this to win.

The Penguins sucked for 4 seasons over 5 years (26th, 29th, 30th, 29th), built up through drafting high picks. 2 years later they made the finals, 3 years later they won the cup.

Chicago is exactly the same. They sucked for 4 seasons over 5 years starting in 03-04 (29th, 28th, 26th, 20th) then 2 years later they are in the cup finals.

The blueprint to win the cup should be through staying competitive and drafting well (ala Detroit and Phily minus 06-07), not by sucking forever to get good picks (ala Pitts, Chi and Was).

There is also a negative aspect to sucking for an extended period, because you get so many high end players you are unable to keep them together with the cap. Pitts is already seeing the effects of this. They were unable to keep Malone, Whitney, Armstrong, etc. Hossa left, and Gonchar will prob leave soon as well. Chicago will lose a ton of players next year, since Toews, Kane, Keith, and Seabrook will no longer be on entry level deals. Barker already left, and I wouldn't be surprised if Sharp, Versteeg, Bolland, Byfuglien are traded, and if Campbell or Huet can't be delt, Seabrook might have to be delt as well.
Basically Chicago has another 1 year left with their current core, before players start leaving town.

So as much as I like Toews, I will be cheering for Richards and Carter. GO FLYERS GO!

How does any of this have anything to do with Phili winning the cup?

I'm going for Philly because they're the Cinderella team; Chicago has the manpower to win it all easily, hands down. On paper, they're the better team but I BELIEVE!

Because I don't want teams that tank for 4+ years (Chicago) to be rewarded with a cup?

Also it would be hilarious if the Pronger effect kept Hossa from winning a cup and going 0/3 in the last 3 years.

Just because you "don't want" is not a good enough reason for a team that has proven itself in the regular season and so far in the playoffs to not win the cup.

I wish it were Montreal, but as long as Philly wins the cup its all good.

I don't want to see Kane and Toews lifting the cup.

If Philly wins, this will be the 3rd time Hossa has lost the cup proving once again he is playoff cancer.

The Flyers are pretty damn good on paper. I like their team but Chicago has their thing going right now. They dismantled the #1 team in the league. :nut:

FYI: No 5-8th seed has won the Cup since the Conference finals format so yeah, it's always been a top 4 seed.

Can Philly change that? Probably not.

When you have Na-chok-ov between the pipes, any team can dismantle the Sharks.

Either way, it's going to be a fun series
