Opera Mini has been approved for the iPhone / iTouch. Available for free in the App Store.

I have been playing with it on and off this morning and it is definitely a lot snappier than Safari and much more usable. So far I haven't run into any real issues with it. The first time I launched it the program locked up, but I hit the home button and re-launched it and it has run perfectly ever since.

One thing to be aware of when using Opera Mini is that they use some variety of data compression method. Basically their servers fetch the web page and all of it's content, compress it then send it to your phone. This makes the pages load way faster but it makes me kind of uneasy about doing like logging into my gmail using their browser. What do you guys think?

I dont use the browser much anymore on my phone. But whenever I do, I don't really have any complaints with Safari. But I'll check out the Opera and see how it is.

You can ssh into your phone and get rid of them that way.

Their zooming function needs work. It's either zoom or no zoom, which is actually pretty annoying.

The zoom/no zoom thing I found annoying at first, but I noticed that it seems to pick a very appropriate zoom level, and it automatically snaps the window to a good position to read all the text I am trying to read so it hasn't really bothered me yet. So far I am much happier with it than Safari, I just wish they had a mode where I could turn off the remote compression.
