On a somewhat related note, I remember seeing someone with this attachment on their bike at the Cjay Kids Rock Ride last year. It was basically a seat cowl but it was taller and was hollow inside allowing you to store small items (wallet, rain suit, etc) and it used the factory lock for the rear seat (I think it was on a ninja?)

Anyone else ever seen these and know where I might find one for a 600rr?

I bought a backpack from a skate shop. Works well enough for me

At MEC lol (Mountain Equipment Co-op) 8st, 10av SW.

Also, TYMSMNYs backpack is sick. I'd like one of those if I could afford another bag.

The newer version is called the MEC Flux 28 Daypack.

I have a green one that's about 3 years old now. Been using it on my motorcycle and bicycle rides for quite some time. Works pretty much perfect.

Another  for OGIO No Drag. Awesome pack. Doesn't move up your back when you ride. Doesn't flop around in the wind, no loose straps. I ride with mine all the time.

i have a Scott bag. they were never released in Canada though, i just got a couple from the Scott reps when i was importing for Parts Canada. i think you can get them from the states though. theyre super comfortable and have a ton of storage. theyre meant for riding and are waterproof too.

I'm surprised you guys are using purpose specific "backpacks". For ten years I've used a couple of Walmart cheapies with no problems. If it's raining enough to need a waterproof pack, you're probably not going to be riding anyway. A little light or even moderate rain never seems to get to the stuff in mine.

:dunno:

@ Masked Bandit..

I ride rain or shine. :) I'm also usually carrying my work laptop and a change of clothes, so I never wanted to take the risk. The highly water resistant backpack I got from MEC has served me quite well for that. I bought it originally for carrying my camera gear in mexico during hurricane season a few years back, and then found it was absolutely perfect for my laptop. The inside sleeve holds it perfectly, and all the various pockets for my misc cords and stuff are awsome. I also use it for snowboarding in the winter, as it's not so big to interfere with the lifts or my balance, but it's got enough space in it for a drink, lunch and some cold weather stuff.

All in all, it's been almost perfect for me, and it was a good price. Great value all around.

Watch where you put the zippers too!

On some packs if you leave them at the top the wind can work them open and then the whole back end flaps down and all your shit falls out.. I've seen it happen more then once on group rides.

Why not just go to MEC and get a pannier and rack? More comfortable and useful.

I've rode with regular packs as well. They work fine, and I've never really had a problem with them.

However, the OGIO feels better when on the bike, and I like the other features such as the hydration feed through the sleeve, the helmet hood, the fact that it can't open up when worn (thus having all your stuff fly out), etc.

I just use a run of the mill Burton backpack. Nothing extravagant. It works for what I need it for.

MEC backpack I have had since Grade 8.

Any backpack will hold up, seriously. :dunno: But if you want quality, grab one from MEC. I used to carry my bass guitar ( in a gig back) on my back (like a backpack) on my way to gigs & practice.

Why don't you get a tank bag with some backpack straps?

I've personally got this, works great. Strong magnets + straps that tuck away. Big enough for some clothes & a lunch.

Hey just a question for you back-pack wearing riders,

how different does it feel to ride if you have weight on your back?? Do you guys notice a difference at all?

I'm sill very newb but I would really wanna take my backpack when going to uni but I'm kinda worried the additional weight may interfere

Unless you have 40lbs worth of textbooks in it you shouldn't worry too much. Just try it out one day with a little in it, then more weight the next day, and so on, so you get the feel for it. I did a ride from Vegas to LA all the way back up to Victoria with a 25lb backpack on, dropping corners all the way up the coast. My neck and shoulders killed me, but the weight didn't wreck the riding dynamics too much haha.

+1...Motopak makes great bike luggage. I've bought a tank bag, saddle bags, and a tail bag from them. Great service. Buy off eBay though, his prices are cheaper there...at least when I bought!

I use an Ogio No-Drag

http://www.cyclegear.com/images/backpacks_bags/ogio_2008_no_drag_backpack_black_LG.jpg

Fits my huge HP laptop, the power supply, 3 texts and 2 binders. It also doesn't flap around like a mother because the zippers open towards your back.

Got it from Coteesh (Ground pilots). Retails for 150 but he cut me a deal because I ordered a bundle.

I might have to invest in something like that. I just use an old backpack but it seems to be rubbing on my neck.

I'm never going back to a backpack if I can avoid it. Restricts the airflow through my jacket far to much. Now that I have a givi trunk on the back, it's all good!

I recommend this booq backpack.
http://www.booqbags.com/Laptop-Backpacks/Boa-squeeze-macbook-backpack
cheaper than the ogio and tons of compartments..

Booq also makes various other sweet ass bags.
