Spent some time a few weeks ago and went for a little trip... To a place where the phoenix rise from the ashes, where the tiger crouches and the dragon hides, where we'd end up if we dug a hole straight through in our backyards, Home of the SARS, a place where everybody would be kung-fu fighting.

http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/0923091239.jpg

The sun might set where we live, but the place I went to is where the sun rises. Ladies and Gentlmen, I went to Hong Kong... Ding ling ling... dong...

Now in order to fund a trip like this, one would have to come up with a decent amount of coins. However, unlike the majority of Beyonders earning extreme wealth with their realtor jobs, business ownerships, investment banking, or just plain ballin', me fixing cars for a living doesn't provide the necessary funds to embark on this journey.

So in order to kick start my trip, I had to call upon the anicent Oriental tradition of treasure hunting, it's called "opening of the lucky red pocket money"
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_4111.jpg

Unfortuntely, that still wasn't quite enough. But luckily in North America we live in such a diverse society, I combined my fund raising event with experience I learned from other cultures over the years... So I combined my Canadian way of live, the Cacasian fund raising tradition: "reaching your hands into the couch for loose change"
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_4120.jpg

Hong Kong is home to at least 7 million, let alone who knows the number of illegals. Things change so quickly in these highly populated cities, it's unbelievable. (i.e. Tokyo, New York, etc...) A year in these big cities, is literally 3-6 years progress in Calgary.

The language in Hong Kong is Chinese, and English as well, as before 1997, HK was a colony of England. (just look it up)... So it is very non-Asian friendly... As seen here, a fellow white dude taking the subway, says he's from Ohio.
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3860.jpg http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3858.jpg

There's such a wide gap between everything (i.e. rich and poor)... living in this this city really makes you feel like you're living in some twilight zone... there's always a "ying and yang" to everything (i.e. black and white, right and left, etc...) For example, walking the streets of HK, you're always getting this mystical aroma of open sewer but can never pinpoint the source (similar to living in Calgary deep South smelling the wind from Shepard landfill), however, the opposite balance would be always smelling yummy Chinese food and snacks as there are food-street vendors everywhere you go.

The transit system is amazing, pretty much 2-5 minutes between trains.
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3894.jpg http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3893.jpg

Though this city is very tourist friendly, however, be sure to check your electrical products that you'll be bringing. As there electrical system are quite complex and confusing, took me a while to get my shaver going, also watch the voltage, they use 220v, while we use 110v.
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3868.jpg http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3867.jpg

The difference in voltage can be easily solved using a combination of transformers and plug-in adapters. There's a street in HK that's famous for selling all sorts of electrical, computer and "device" type of products. (i.e. street vendor type of deal, even trading used cell phones, video games, etc...)

If there's anything that Hong Kong people are known for, and that's for their money minded ways (i.e. always about money), and their struggle for fame... So you know what they say: "when in rome....." But how was I gonna accomplish any of this as an unknown car repair technician from Calgary who don't make a lot of money... But any lead is still worth pursuing, good thing I went to kindergarten with this guy... (he starred as an extra in a HK film, lol)... So there, that's my retirement plan, be his entourage when he makes it big.

Visted my mom's cousin's house (she married rich, which from my research, my observation, and therefore my opinion; I've noticed the common goals of MOST smokin' hot Asian females is to hit it up with some rich dude) Of course at the same token, most rich Asian dudes end up paying and hooking up with hot ass Asian bitches... (Just my OPINION, based on my observation)

Anyways, that's pretty much it for Hong Kong, it's a well developed tourist city that anyone should be able to navigate their way around... many tourist attraction photos can be pulled off of Google.com or the likes... I just posted photos of an average man's everyday living, so I didn't get any landscapes or the well known landmarks.

Don't stay too cosy though, next post once I get around will be actually the motherland China.

Trust me, majority of HK bitches are like that, hot or not.

My cousin's mother in-law always complained that her daughter could have married richer dudes. But I have to say, she got assets to pull it off too.

HK is all $$$.

The amount of money in that City is beyond my comprehension.

I spent 4 days in HK as part of my 2.5 week trip. Met up with a buddy who moved there a few years back to pursue greater things. With his various connections, he took me to LKF to party. I had NO IDEA what LKF was about. I learned fast though. Best time of my life at these clubs. Expensive but it helped being friends with a club owner who kept pouring the rounds. The women are insanely hot. Redlyne_Mr2 would lose his mind here. Anyway, the women are beyond my league. I'm a 6/10 and the women here are 20/10 so I just casually chilled and talked to a few who I got introduced to.

Ok onto the Mainland China trip... these are going to be some long ass photos, but what the hell, just browse through the photos for fun anyways.

There still might be a lot of misconception and impression that people have about China in today's world versus 20-30 years ago... A lot has definitely changed since the 1980's (that's when I grow up, so I'm refering that era, plus China didn't really open up until 1970's anyways)

In general just the wealth of the entire nation, as well as general advancement has definitely changed.

Uncle's apartment in China...
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3752.jpg http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3750.jpg
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3747.jpg http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3748.jpg

But you can see security is still a concern... (nice place, but they still have bars on all windows, etc...)
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3746.jpg

My aunt made sure they built the apartment with a urial, I have never seen one in a residential house... thought about it in a basement development.
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3756.jpg

China's "bylaws" and business/residential zonings are none existence, or depends on who you know I suppose. Automotive shops (mechanical repairs, detailing) downstairs from apartments. Now that everyone in China don't have bicycles anymore (in most major cities, they banned the use of bicycles and motorbikes/scooters)
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3754.jpg http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3759.jpg
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3760.jpg http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3761.jpg
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3763.jpg http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3764.jpg

Although there are improvements, however, some things just do not change from what we all remember or heard about China. The general attitude of "this ain't my shit, so I don't give a fuck about it" still persist... random throwing of the garbage, spitting on elevators, nose picking in public (that was one of my failed missions for you Beyonders, I'm sorry didn't get any pics of this)
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3757.jpg http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3758.jpg

In the old days, the government didn't have much money nor the equipment for infrastructures, so you'd get private business who only pave or concrete the area infront of their business, then the whole streets are mixed with ROUGH dirt, concrete, patched asphat, etc... (shitty roads, bumpy ride) Nowadays, they've got smoother, wider, nicer roads on major highways than our pothole filled Deerfoot.

But driving and Asian drivers, now that's a different story... If you ever get a chance to visit Asia or China, be sure to go heavy on your life insurance... you WILL be putting your life/fate in the hands of millions/billions of majority Asian drivers. Whether you're pedestrian or riding in a vehicle... traffic signs, traffic "acts", those are all just suggestions as nobody really completely follows them. (this chick was like 2 inches from our car, but that's the way you do it if you want to ever cross the street)

Some huge ass manufacturer dealerships (labour for building stuff are relatively cheap, but still, these buildings still cost a pretty penny)

http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3824.jpg

Onto food, yum yum... Chinese food... though people in China would just refer "Chinese food" as to just "FOOD" you know. Which is weird, when Chinese people want to eat McDonald's or KFC, etc... they'd just say McDonald's, not "white food"... so why do we in North Amercia just not say honey wanna get some Mandrian chicken salad tonight, instead of Chinese food.
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3769.jpg http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3790.jpg

Speaking of food, for anyone who's never been to China. PLEASE REMEMBER, always bring your toilet paper and have some in your pocket Because of the shear number of people, most places (even restaurant) do not offer "free" toilet paper in the stalls (in restaurants you pre-ask for a tissue pack, or you have to buy) but just warning you all.

And ready for this??????? In inner China, they still use..........
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3825.jpg

^^^ That's a squating toilet for those who don't know (Google and learn)... It as painful as it looks. The only benefits I can come up with is that you prevent a lot of TTD, Toilet-seat Transmitted Diseases... Or the penis-touch-bowl syndrome, though unless you got's a 18" big black schlong, that wouldn't be a huge concern, which according to American researchers, most Asian men have nothing to worry about with penis touch squating bowl, right.

A big chain department store, combines Costco, Canadian Club Wholesale, WalMart tyep of feel... (I was told owned by French corporation)... 10-20 years ago, you would never see stores like these in China. And yes, China has Wal-Mart as well, Amercian company, selling Made In China stuff within China. Literally May-Wong finished sewing a pair of socks, and shelf it herself at Wal-Mart to sell.

I suppose while I'm in China, might as well go see my dad... He always had been a factory men, working for "the man" (big faceless corporation)

For the purpose of privacy, I'll just call this a "factory plant"... can't get too specific.

So daddy use to build and run factories for big corporations... (like not with his money, just making sure all the real ballers on here knows I ain't frontin'... like over saw the build and ran the place)
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3854.jpg http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3855.jpg

http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3839.jpg http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3840.jpg
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3856.jpg

Plastic injection molding machines, these range from 50 - 350 ton capacity. These are the type of machines that'd make your plastic items. Great for the man to be up top in the air conditioned office, not great for the Chinaman sweatin' balls down on the floor, these things produces so much heat.
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3850.jpg http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3849.jpg
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3851.jpg

Negative molds for these machines, each mold produce a different part. And sometimes for 1 product, it requires numberous of molds.
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3852.jpg http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3853.jpg

Living "dorms" or "campus" for the workers, as most times factories are built in the middle of nowhere, away from major cities. And the workers are usually foreignly brought in from small towns and villages looking for money... For the women, (my best guess) would be they might not quite be pretty enough to work in the brothels, for the men, not manly enough to work in the mines or constructions. (just kidding, I don't know the real reasons)
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3832.jpg http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3833.jpg
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3834.jpg

Factory workers in China, (as per advertising when I was there), the on going rate would be about ~$300 Canadian per MONTH... Just something for y'all to think about, though there are a wide range of living standards (rich can live luxury, poor has their low cost products), you can still get by in the $300/mn mark (i.e. won't starve, cloth yourself, etc..) But of course, there are a lot Chinese owners making A LOT and I mean A LOT of freakin' money, don't forget that.

Factories and heavy industries has definitely changed in China, I mean just think of how everything is made in China. This compared to the 1980's, huge difference. (file photo from 1980's)
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/3-28-2009_004.jpg

You know it's so funny how different society operate. In North Amercia, I chill out with some friends on the weekends and they say: "Hey kids, let's go have some family fun, put your shoes on kids we're going to the mall"... and they kids are all excited jumping for joy and they'd be like "yea dad, can we go to that place at the mall and make our own teddy bear?"... And then the dad would pay AND bust their chops making their own toys.

In China, parents would just say to kids on the weekend: "Yo put your damn shoes on freakin' kids, you're going to the factory to work and sew some teddy bears, so you can have a bowl of rice to eat tonight"

I'd know, I was there

Yeah man, keep the pics and commentary coming!

I wish I was into photography back when I went to HK/China a few years back (2004? 2005?). So many cool things to see. And yeah, the most memorable part of China for me were the drivers, bar none. If Calgarians think driving here is bad, their heads would explode in China.

Ok ok this the Chinaman speical right here... (you know, since China's income and economy is mostly made up of manufacturing shit for other countries and themselves, almost everywhere you go in China, it'd be loaded up with factories that makes something... usually certain cities and towns speicalize in one specific type of thing to keep their industry solidify)

This factory I tell y'all more about since it belongs to our family... Not completely "my parents", but everyone within the circle of friends, family, neighbours, etc... So at the end of the day my immediate family could only own 0.00001% of the place. But definitely not some random shots of my uncle's pimpin' garage pad out in the rocky mountains.

This is a die-cast factory. (Die-cast is the process that makes the bottom of your little palm side collector toy cars; hence why they call Die-cast car collection)... It's the "metal" version of a plastic injection molding, but with melted Zinc.

These are metal presses (don't know "exact terms" sorry), a mold fits in the machine, and it punched the mold up and down something like couple hundred times per second.
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3903.jpg http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3905.jpg

You feed raw metal strips (or sheets, pending on the product). And the press forms the metal into the shape of the mold design.
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3911.jpg http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3908.jpg

This round, they're making those front nose cap on a lighter.
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3910.jpg http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3907.jpg

Onto the Die-cast presses:
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3917.jpg http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3918.jpg
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3926.jpg http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3919.jpg

So basicaly the machine melts raw Zinc (maybe along with some other crap, hopefully not lead), and it presses it into the mold, and a product comes out.)
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3920.jpg http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3914.jpg

Back to fuckin' lighers you pryos

The "flint wheel" on a lighter is made this way.
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3927.jpg http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3928.jpg

Now, those of you with lighters, you'll see there's a middle thingy which causes the spark right. But how do you get the 2 outter metal wheel and sandwich everything together? And how do you do it effectively and efficiently?

That's what daddy slaved away his life for, designing systems that'd make factory lines run faster, efficient, smoother.

Now certain things and products are specificly engineered through it's design. But in China, for most things, a lot of it is just trial and error and just China-rigging ideas together (i.e. "hey as long as it works and we reach the end result, who cares how it's done")

So for that (sandwiching a lighter flint wheel), they just came up with a system where it reminded me of panning for gold in a river (except each lighter component only pays like $0.0000001 CDN)... Engineers on here will probably understand how it works.
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3932.jpg http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3934.jpg

Lots of things can be produced this way... Yes, those are genunie Toyota components, no they're not brake parts. Only a 7-10 product contract, stuff like connecting elbow ends on your coolant hose, thermostat caps, etc...

That's cool, thanks for the factory tour. I guess not all factories employ thousand's of people in an assembly like you see on tv and magazines. Are factories like this a dime a dozen in China?

Didn't get any chance to go, my mom pretty much jam packed my schedule, there's always a time slot for everything. Literally she's one step close to might as well pick the girl I'm gonna doink during my stay.

Besides I'm not much of a gambling man. ;)

Naw, I too lazy man... the software processing program is super fast if I keep it at this size, lol... If you want the big ass original camera file, let me know which ones.

Oh no my moderator friend, what you see on TV is very true with the packed factories... I just waited for the shop to clear out to take the photos...

I'm sorry, thought I'd censortize things to protect everyone here, some people just can't deal with the truth that goes on in this world (how other people live everyday). But now that you asked, y'all know me, I spit the truth... A few few years back I took a white friend-girl there, described the whole "$150-$200 Canadian/month wage, living conditions (you can just visually SEE what goes on, some can take it, some can't; but hey that's reality what life's about outside of "oil rich Alberta"), the crowds of people, the super wealthy, the super poor 70-80 year old grandmas pushing garbage carts, etc..." She just couldn't take it and broke down like a culture shock, took a few months before she was willing to suck me dick again :(

So I'm sorry, just trying to cushion everyone who's never seen or been to China.

Anyhow, as your request, here's a factory filled with people. Old photos with 35mm camera scanned. Bottom right machines are sonic welders (aka: method is called: Ultrasonic welding), where it uses vibration waves to produce heat (I believe), and it fuses thin plastic together, things that are too small to put screws, glue, bolts, nail through... You know those gadgets where you try to take apart yourself but need a hammer to smack apart cuz it doesn't have any screws, cell phones, calculators, TV remotes, etc... I'm trying to talk with some engineers to see if we can duplicate this technology into a dildo.

Damn it Derek I was looking forward to uploading more trip photos getting home tonight... now you got me talking about factories... Oh well, can do that this week.

This is a polyresin factory. Mostly used for "figurines" type of industry, you know the nerds at the mall buying those medieval warlord games and they paint the figures themsevles, paying $50 per thumbsize figure while it costs $2 to make in China... Just kidding, you are the guys whom pays for my allowance, put me through school, etc... I love you guys, keep buying those, very collectable and valueable. I live in my parent's basement too, so go nuts spend your money on that shit.

Ok so the process is, you have a master crafter (some of the Japanese units, they send a Japanese master over) they make a clay positive mold. Then they cast a negative mold from that clay crafted original (the white blocks on the table are negatives). Then you pour in your resin mix.
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/CCF24042010_00000.jpg

Then you have to sand, smooth out the middle seem. Paint/spray coloring as per customer... package, delivery.
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/CCF24042010_00001-1.jpg

Final products. (These are in Calgary :D ) Just perks of sweatin' nuts in the factory life, oh don't give me that look, those of you who work in restaurants you don't think I know you guys take a piece of shrimp before leaving the kitchen. Those who work for sporting goods stores don't think I don't know where ur weekly new runners coming from.

Censored? :poosie:

Chinese labor is cheap because there will be endless amount people that will work these factory jobs then collecting cans from the streets.

I will be decades before cheap labor runs out and they may have to look to Africa as the next manufacturing hub.

If I ever have to visit motherland, I would never tell a soul. All the relatives will all come out and plan everything for you. Leaving very little room for activities you want to do.

Great pics and explanations. Thanks for sharing. I lived in the jungle of the Philippines for two years, I miss the everyday adventures of being in a place like that. Sometimes life seems so sterile, mundane and boring here...but then I remember I have clean water, abundant variety food, enforced civil laws, medical care, cars, ability to afford a comfortable life...etc. The world is an interesting place.

Guess I should finish off my article before I start my seasonal job any moment now...

This is a well known private resort community development in China. (the developer bought like 1,000's of acres of land, made a little international upper class community, with corporate run schools, shops, hospital, resort, hotel, man-made beaches, internal buses that'll take you within the land, etc...) Picture as if a developer bought out all of Okotoks, and everything was controled by 1 corporation.

Kind of like the North Amercian version of "buying a cottage"... these were initially targetted to wealthy Hong Kong people, or wealthy working foreigners as vacation homes... but now that the mainland Chinese people started to make real dollars, they're building bigger, better units... I just have relatives living in the older development (OG phase), small, mininum size entry level units.

http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3996.jpg http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Trip/100_3998.jpg

Even got invited to a traditional Chinese wedding  They hosted it in the village "clan" that they grew up in (i.e. everybody any race has got to start somewhere, in the Chinese world, everybody has a village of people within the same last names, where their father's father's father's father's father grew up type of deal)

So with this wedding, someone from the village made it big as a developer (real estate) in the big city, and his son's getting married... so he just invited anybody and everybody within the same village and surrounding village who wants to come, lol. (like someone growing up in Harvest Hills and they just invite that whole community over)

Hosted at the community center, just cause well, I doubt any restaurants can accommodate 1,500 ppl.

China-rigged gas fitting  cause every table has a gas burner and wok. (hot pot style). I swear to you guys, I was so glad I ramped up my life insurance policy before I went, never had so much enjoyment eating Chinese food while being stressed out... Not being a chicken shit or nothin'... but there was a shop neighbour beside my Calgary auto shop (bottom 2 photos), their entire shop was burnt to a crisp (propane leak too, heard was from forklift), entire tear down, entire rebuild, took them 10 months down time. Insurance pay probably :D But I mean fires and propane explosions are scary, and anyone who's seen Asian people at any FREE Calgary Stampede breakfast lots , you know how much of a cluster it can be, imagine if an explosion erupted and everyone trying to stampede their way out. :(

Had my escape route planned out around the elders, easier to push your way through. (I'm KIDDING, I'm KIDDING, geez)

When I went back to HK/China a few years back, we actually got to go back to the family village where my grandpa grew up and it was the same sort of deal (there was actually two villages next to each other with the same family name). I guess the story is my great grandpa had like 7 sons and each one was given a house in the village, so we were actually in the house where my grandpa grew up and saw all kinds of old photos and stuff. It was pretty surreal being in a village surrounded by people all related to you in one way or another.
