I was wondering if anyone knew the answer to this question. I have noticed that when I transfer mp3s to my ipod or iphone, the playback quality (yes, subjective to me) is not the same. It is my opinion that there is some loss in quality i.e. bitrate or something. So can someone provide some light on what the exact process is when you add an mp3 to your itunes library and then to your ipod/iphone?

For example, if I transfer an mp3 to my itunes library and transfer and burn the same song onto an ipod and CDR, respectively, the CDR just sounds better to me. Yes, I know that when it is burned to a CDR, it is converted to CDA format.

I also tested out whether an mp3 sounds different on the computer whether I play it on windows media player or via itunes and as far as I can tell, they both sound the same.

I'm just curious to know if there is any "conversion" process or reason on what I'm noticing. If anyone knows the answer, please post. Thanks.

Also, these days, most of my mp3s are at 320kb bit rate.
