I've cut back my bad food/drink intake significantly, I have a messed up knee from working at a quick lube and falling in the pit a few years ago and running really hurts so I'm looking for different excercises that are low impact I can do in and around my house to get back to shape and hopefully try to nurse my knee back to health.

What do you guys do? I won't sign up a gym either.

I have a buggered knee as well. I have a bit of equipment but it works. I do situps, chinups and bike 5km 3 times a week (mon, wed, fri) and then i do deads, squats and take the dog for a walk for 5km (tues, thurs, sat)

It may not be much, but with a much cleaner diet i have lost 20lbs since oct. Thats with the christmass and easter feast/leftovers and spending a week in mexico sucking back anything with booze in it. I also drink once a week as well.

If i was more strict i would be doing much better but i wouldnt stick with it because it wouldnt be fun to me. Right now i have a good balance and i am happy.

Yeah cycling's the shit... great for cardio, low impact, and you can spend whatever you want on your bike- as long as it works you're fine!

If you want a cheap bike (<$100) go to the Good Life Bike Shop in Eau Claire... they take old bikes and refurb them.

Cycling is great. Personally, I prefer an eliptical machine even better.

Have you ever tried inline skating? Heck of a work out!

the best low impact sport IMO, which will actually help your knee, as it did with mine, is swimming

Swimming FTW!

Dave, get into weight lifting. It will speed your progress along immensely!
