Have a buddy with a 1991 NSX, 60k miles, absolute mint condition, bunch of mods, custom 19s etc etc. Just wondering what they are worth around here?

I'd say ~40K depending on condition

Ya I agree with boosted. I'd say 35 to 40.

They are holding their value quite proper. I would say same as above depending on condition and how quick you want the sale to be.

The 91 NSX has been going for the same price since 1998.

If it's an auto you can easily knock $5k off those numbers. It would be important to know what mods it has.

roughly $160 per horsepower - the same as a new gtr

Stuntmonkey

Its manual hah, dunno why anybody would want an auto, defeats the point!

Pretty much what we were expecting to get for it. Thanks!

Wow, that's insane. You can get a Ferrari 355 Spyder for that kinda coin, and the Ferrari will be newer.

It really is a sick thing. The damn things just won't go down in value and finding a 02+ LSB is damn near impossible.

i hate how true this is.

i want one so damn badly its ridiculous and its starting to seem like i never will. when iv got 40,000 to blow on a toy its going to be hard to convince myself of NSX when there are so many newer, faster, more reliable toys for that price.

THIS.

The longer you wait the less and less likely you'll buy one, I'm in the same boat. I don't think I'd spend 60k on a NSX anymore. I'd rather spend that money on something else and modern.

my friend bought an NSX, drove it 8 years, did nothing but change tires/oil and sold it for what he paid. Crazy but true.

60kmiles: Is it a US car? I'd say you'd be lucky to get $35k for it as I've seen newer ones with lower mileage go for less.

I don't understand all the love for NSX - it's a waste of money IMO. Paying north of $30k for 1980's technology is crazy. The styling is nice (and timeless), but it doesn't have matching performance numbers to match. Sub 300hp in a 3000lb car = :(

40k for an almost 20 year old car with under 300hp :nut:

I still want one bad though.

For 40g's I would buy an 02 911 turbo from the states or spend 45g's on an f355 spider from the states. Or even a 2000 viper gts acr. That's just way to much for an acura nsx a specially an older one.

yea but because the car is under powered and so expensive, it makes it a truly collector's car type of thing where you won't see 5 in the same day.

Plus the styling of the car is simply beautiful. Don't think your average person would think the car is 19 years old.

I sold mine for the same price I bought it for after two years of ownership and I will probably buy another one some day, it was an amazing car.

Where are you guys finding 355 Spyders for 45Gs? Lets say you do find one for that cheap factor in the duty, the RIV letter $$$ and about $2000-5000 to freshen up the car. There is no such thing as a $45G CND landed spyder. :)

IMO, the NSX is one of the nicest designed cars of all time. As mentioned, most would have no idea it was so old unless they were an enthusiast.

The only thing that looks really dated are the stock wheels... which many have changed anyway. The popup lights don't look recent either - but personally, I've always liked pop-ups....

Underpowered? Maybe a little - but 0-60 in a tick over 5 seconds is not exactly a slouch. It is more important to have a good power to weight ratio than a really heavy car with lots of horsepower...

I've been keeping an eye on these cars in the usa. It is not unusual to find them in the low 20's with somewhere around 120-150 kms. Of course, then there are duties, gst, etc....

NSX maintenance is not the cheapest by any means and to spend $40g on a car is really hard when you can find 996 thats gonna be more reliable.

soloracer
04-24-2010, 07:52 PM
I have both comptech supercharged 1993 NSX and a 2001 996 TT. The 996 TT was about $50k landed on my doorstep. The NSX was about $35k landed on my doorstep. The 996 TT is a much faster, modern and more capable car. If they were even priced I would take the Porsche. However, the NSX at the price I paid is worth it as I still think they are one of the most beautiful cars in the world - even if they aren't the fastest or most modern.

soloracer
04-24-2010, 08:00 PM
One other thing, you aren't getting an F355 Spyder or Coupe for $45k from the US. By the time you take out taxes/duties/shipping/etc. that means you have to find one for sale under $40K. That isn't happening - unless there is something seriously wrong with the car that will require big $$$$ to fix.

I'm curious as to people's example of anything exotic "more reliable" than an NSX?

I had mine for 3 years. Oil changes were all I did to it. All it needed.

Some stuff, like a clutch, can set you back a lot.

As for the 996 being better, well yeah, of course it is. It's newer and the design shows it.

Unfortunately, the 996 is the most BLAND 911 ever built. I wouldn't take any model 996, even if it were given to me. The 997 looks SO much nicer it's not even funny.

As for the F355s... I've been looking at them for months. They're still SO expensive to own. That'll be the downfall for my Ferrari ownership. :(

Cody,

I used to think like you did about the 996 but I am really warming up to my 996 Turbo. The car does almost everything really well. How many other cars can be a daily driver in all four seasons, make big horsepower reliably, taken to the track and thrashed, driven across country comfortably and be bought for $50k? The car does everything so well that if I had to sell my cars I could actually see myself keeping the 996TT and letting the rest go.

I'm even starting to not mind the headlights so much. With some nice wheels and a lowered stance they look better. Take a look at this Sportec tuned car to see what I mean.

I am surprised at the 996 hate that allot of people have. I do think the 997's look a bit better, but the 996 is still very nice - just different!

Lots of potential for the 996 turbo. I heard if you mod the engine, it drastically decreases reliability, and would cost more as a dd down the road. Ie softronic ecu flash, although amazing, spend 1700 us and you now have 500 bhp in your porsche, it could really impact reliability. Anyone here any truth to this?

There are a lot of 500+ hp 996 Turbos out there and I haven't heard anything about reliability being drastically reduced. Sounds like someone is feeding you a bunch of malarky. The 3.6 engine is derived from the GT1 program where they were run flat out for hours on end. Check the various Porsche forums out there and there are almost no 996 Turbo engines being rebuilt. If what you heard was true I would expect that there would be a ton of threads about blown engines/turbo's/etc. Actually the usual commentary is about how "bulletproof" the engine is.

Soloracer, it wasn't me that said that he didn't like the 996 style, it was Ryan. I love the 996, they are so affordable now. I really love the car I bought but a 996TT was high on my list of possible options.

Man, 60K mile ( 100,000 km ) won't be $40K .....

:dunno:

I mean for a 20 yr old car, 100K km isn't that much, but NSX is different, it is a poor man Ferrari, and rare ..

I almost bought one from Seattle ~ 2 yr ago, ( Exchange rate was good ) 55K mile, $24K US, but too bad, it was red .. I passed it.

It was a good deal, and I understand they worth more in Canada, but with 60K mile, say 30K to 35K max. (if nice colour, such as Black)

I have seen some low km NSX for $40K, some late model NSX-T for 55-60K.

(By the way, where to see a Ferrari F355 Spider for $45K? LOL)

Anyway, I can't find the link anymore but it lists the differences between the NSX from 1991 to 2005. It breaks down year to year.

If anyone knows what I'm talking about, please post it up.

Was there anything major between 2002 and 2005? I don't recall but.....just want to know. I'm all talk anyway so don't be expecting to see a NSX posting from me about actually buying one hahaha
