I'm thinking of importing an Evo 1-3 this summer(i believe that the laws changed and the 5km collision thing no longer applies, correct me if i'm wrong), and I was just wondering which importers people have had good experiences with?

Mostly in avoiding imports that have been driven to shit, and clean cars?

Huh, just asking a question. No need to be a dick. I'm not exactly hoping for it to show up driven under 3krpm and 20'000k on it. I just asked for a reputable importer who doesn't misrepresent their products, but you've been a great help. I'm glad the japs are working so damn hard for me.

I've heard good things about Zen Autoworks
http://www.zenautoworks.ca/

I used Import Concern, but it's under new management so I'm not sure how they are now.

Or one of Beyond's sponsors, jdmsource.ca

My friend bought a 1994 WRX wagon from them. Not a single thing wrong with it besides what was already described (cosmetic). He has chipped it, installed a boost controller, turboback exhaust (pulls USDM STI's now) and never had a problem with it. He hasn't even had to replace the coil packs yet.

For the ridiculous price of owning that car with only ~60,000kms on it, he got one hell of a deal. Best car he's ever owned by far. If I was looking for a sporty DD for a good deal, I'd go there again in an instant.

Don't listen to chkolny, he's a fuckin 11 year old kid that's fucked in the head.

If you want a perfect or near perfect JDM car google up brave auto or zen auto and ask for Mark or Sean.

consider getting an evo 4, they will be legal next year and priced almost the same as an evo 3

If that was the case they would start at $15,000 min, thanks for the hyperbole. My 95 gto was pretty much being waxed up until it was ready to be shipped to me :)

I know of a few people that do the importing themselves, i'm pretty sure there are a few threads on here, if not PM me and I can get you in touch with someone that has a ton of experience doing it privately.

I am also looking to import a BMW or Benz. I wanted to go through jdmsource as he seems like a standup guy, but he is not importing german cars anymore

I know someone that just imported and M5 and an Alpina through a private auction, i'm considering going that route myself.

Here is the thread from bimmerforums:

I'd recommend buying a landed car so you can take a good look at it before you buy.

It's too much of a dice roll to bring one over sight unseen IMHO.
