I was wondering how someone got a 1991 model into Canada until I saw his location. There's nothing allowed before 1989 right now... has to be 15 years right?

But if that was a 1991 GTR in Calgary, that would be worth quite a bit...

you're right, a car is not insurable and registerable if it is newer than 1989.

There is no need to do that. RHD is legal.

Actually there is one person who has an R32 up in Edmonton. He is selling it for 24-25000 CAD I think. Its a RWD, RB20, RHD. Its insured and registered in Edmonton. He just picked up a R33 GTR so he is selling it. His father imports and exports to Japan and somehow got it registered and insured here as a Nissan Skyline, but if the government finds out.... :guns:

I've driven that car and i know the owner, though not too well he lives out by a friends place north of Edmonton. Him and his BROTHER import motorcycles and they thought they'd try their luck with cars. He imported two TTz32's and TWO Skyline GTS-T's.... A buddy bought the one Z32 unknowingly and it's been in the shop getting repaired since last summer and the Skyline he's selling is registered and insured as a LandRover (courtesy of some police friends that love skylines checkin up on it). And that GTS-T, I can get one for WAY WAY less than that if you wait until they're legal and don't get wound up in the insurance scandal and import scandal that's unfolding (think about it, when its crashed and they realize it's not a land rover...).

IMO Illegal cars suck, they're not a good things and there are too many wrongs that can come out of owning and purchasing one. It's a buyer beware sort of market on these, he even tried to tell me it was legal... little does he know.

That's the same one we're talking about.... remember just because it's here or in the bf or whatever, does not mean it's here legally. buyer beware.

I've seen R32 GTS-T's for under $2500US, obviously they need to be shipped here but still, that's cheap!

More then you can afford pal. Nissan.

I think you would pay out your ass to bring an R32 over if you couldn't find one here, but whats the point? It's so dated you can get much better cars here for much less.

wow do you miss the point in owning a car like this.:banghead:

why wouldnt it be legal in 2004 to own an 89 GTR? 2004 - 1989 = 15 years = legal in Canada.

Hrm... other than the Supra TT which is severly overpriced, nothing else can touch this car in terms of modability :).

It wouldn't really be that expensive for the car. An R32 GTR puts out 280hp and has the benefit of being a rare find in North America. I've seen shipping for $900 US to a Canadian port from Japan and 89' GTR's for under $4000 before. I just saw a 89' GTS-t which still puts out around 210 hp in RWD form for $2400 US. Plus like Rage said, it's got tons of mods available - although pricey to get to the US!

I realize there is a certian value in owning and driving a car that no one else has, but personally I wouldn't pick an R32.

Wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to throw the motor into a 240? At least there is support over here for the 240 chassis, I'm not too sure what a Nissan dealership would say if you drove in a RHD '32 for service.

Yes and no.... it needs to be 15 years old to the month it was produced in... January 1989 can be imported in January 2004, etc.,

I would agree w/ rage and the others saying it's a superior car for the money... nothing on North American soil will touch it in terms of modibility. It's fast, it's awd, and it's fairlyreliable from what I've seen even when boosted more than stock...

A motorswap into a 240 isn't cheaper, especially if you're using the skyline gtr's rb26dett.... then it's hella expensive. I know a guy that spent $12000~ on his swap, while others have spent $3000-$5000 (depending on cost of the motor) and have done it in their garages... Don't forget you still have to buy the 240 to perform the swap into... :(

Either way, good cases can be made on both sides. You could probably order the parts from Japan to the local dealerships... There's a guy at a dealership here who's very awesome at getting almost anything for Nissan, especially classic Z cars (Ya I know it's not an r32)... :)

I don't think importing is for everyone, but I tell ya I've found it to be nearly cheaper than most swaps I've seen/known to have taken place + you get all the JDM goodies including RHD... ;)

First off, the only time you'd bring it into a Nissan dealership is for bragging rights :).

Second, the support for Skyline is quite huge... just gotta know where to look :).

If you swapped it into a 240 you would also lose the AWD.

I digress. I just wouldn't be able to justify the car to myself, therefore would never purchase one.

for some ppl, cars like this just don't have any appeal - so sometimes never IS never ;)

I for one would love to have an R32... :D
