it's only 11:00pm on the first...lol...sometimes it's a few days in before anyone starts one...

Just got home from visiting my family, not ready to do a big post for my own thread yet, so just the one teaser. Straight out of camera with no noise reduction at 1600 ISO, 300 2.8 with 1.7 TC at F5, 1/500.

I really love mission raceway...so much greener

http://www.stevenszabophoto.com/photos/853741945_DCKCM-XL-3.jpg

*edit* had a bit of a color cast...so adjusted the levels and put it back up, so no longer straight out of camera :(

one more I had to add...this one had a minor levels adjustment...and it's with the 2.0 teleconverter at 1/125, F 6.3, ISO 200

I took this one of my friends Rodeo while I was driving down mcleod. Couple of weird looks were received I guess people are used to watching you drive with a cell phone not a camera lol.

I found a factory refurbished 85mm 2.8 PC (tilt shit lens), going to take a lot of practice to be able to use it properly.

First successful tilt attempt. Shot at 2.8 with focal plane along the deck boards. Exciting, huh? :)

Sideways tilt, tried to get the focal plane to pick up both the front and back tulips but missed it slightly on the back ones:

SB-900 through softbox @ - 1.3 EV, 3/4 power generic flash behind flower pointed at background, full power generic flash reflected off silver umbrella.

These are $40 ebay flashes, and they can either act as optical slaves or with the CLS preflash. Pretty damn good value if you ask me.

The flashes are YN460's off ebay, I just bought 2 more since they work so well. This is the cheapest place I've found:

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250611042726&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Softbox and stands I got here:

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370375409943&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

I think I got the silver umbrella from Adorama

All in all:
Softbox $70
Stands $35
Flash/Umbrella holders $15
Umbrella $13
2 YN460 flashes $80

I also bought a 10' x 10' background holder for $100 from the same ebay store as the softbox and some 52" rolls of black and white seamless paper for about $70 off ebay.

I should make that $ back in the first hour of the boudoir shoots I'm selling on Kijiji.

alright dave...I know you're going to take this the wrong way...but I'll give it a shot anyway...with track photography, and more specifically bikes, in order to sell a shot back to the riders you want to have a shot that makes a connection with the rider, in cars it doesn't make as much of a difference what angle you shoot at because the car's always pretty much looking the same. With the bikes though, a bike leaned away from you doesn't give the same connection as over half of your rider is now hidden by the bike...there's plenty of good locations to do panning shots without looking at the outside of the bike ;)

Good shot photographically, and interesting take on the edit.

From that location if you crouch down you can shoot up to the entrance of the carousel, and with enough focal length it feels like the bike is about to run over the camera.

Here's one from about mid corner:

http://stevenszabo.smugmug.com/photos/865843022_5v6HH-L-2.jpg

and just for fun one of zottman clowning for the camera:

I feel that Steve is correct in saying that the emphasis or connection, is not very strong on those shots.

However, the first shot I particularly like. I got the impression you wanted to incorporate more of the track into the shot, as you mentioned that it's "good to be home." There may be a bit more dead space on the left than I prefer, but nonetheless an enjoyable shot.

How did you get a hold of the schedule for these events? I'd really like to try this stuff out this summer.

Nice vid and even greater song selection!

May I ask what the song title is? And also, did you just leave a camera out there overnight? Weren't you afraid it might get jacked? :(

the roof of my building is pretty secure, technically not supposed to go up there, but the doors are left unlocked 99% of the time. All my stuff is insured, so if it ever went missing...it'd be a hassle but i'm sure i could get most of my money back.

the other lapses were with me sitting around while the camera was doing it's thing...didnt leave it alone....just took my MF superclamp and stuck it to whatever pole/bench i could find, then let the intervalometer do it's thing.

Thanks! I actually have a friend who's a professional cake decorator. She makes and decorates all my smash cakes. This new rainbow cake is going to be the standard I use for all my smashes in the future, I just adore how this one turned out

Don't suppose you could forward me her info could you? As I'm beginning to discover all of these weddings I've been doing the past few years are starting to result in maternity and baby sessions and a few are now getting to that point where they want the one year old pictures and I think these birthday cake photos you do are just awesome.

I mean I wish I had baby photos like that of myself since they are just rockin! Not to mention it totally captures a baby as they are...

This photo has made it's way back to the rider. We are a sponsor of his and currently have his Western Superbike Championship trophy at our dealership. Watermarks are all still intact. Hope you don't mind.

This one is a bit soft in a couple spots but i like it anyway. Brad hauling my buddy curtis around 2up. Apparantly it's a life changing experience for him lol

yeah, getting a 2 up ride with brad kind of changes the average person's perspective on what's possible on a motorcycle. Something about him having a knee planted on the pavement passing people around the outside of a corner with someone on the passenger seat is pretty humbling for the average person ;)

I remember my first ride in 2002 on the back of his gixxer. It actually scared me. Curtis is a new rider so it is pretty humbling for him now. I don't think he knew exactly what a motorcycle is capable of before tonight.

Haven't gone out shooting in a week or two, but spent a few minutes in the backyard. 35mm 1.8 Dx on a D700, all pretty much wide open.

Quick question. How do you take shots like these? Do you have some sort of mount and then you stalk the car from the back?

:dunno:

Basic shot. Trying to get more into car photography, but I definitely have a long way to go.

C&C appreciated.
