How much is the bike worth that the deductible is $500?

Q-TIP
05-03-2010, 08:37 PM
At this point, $1500. Insurance will only cover $1000 minus the $500 deductible. So if someone returns the bike to me I am out $500, if I let insurance cover it I am out $1000. As a stolen bike I would imagine it's value at $500 just because it's hot.

This happened to my buddy last summer, but the moron posted it on kijiji like the next day, so we got it back :D

I'd say your best bet is hoping they're retarded and do the same.

I hope someone finds it and I hope that person has the humility to not accept a cash reward.

I've been there before.

Concusion induced insane diarrhea...

I have the serial of all my bikes. I don't really want to post it up on the internet as it may somehow come back to bite me in the ass. I would try all the pawn shops in Calgary however I simply do not have the time. My job has me sorta tied down at the moment. If anyone has a pawn shop near their house feel free to check it out and call me if there happens to be a bike like mine in it.

Years ago I had my bike stolen. I reported it to the cops and 6 months later it was returned to me after it appeared on their hot list.

Worth the phone call, then they'll do all the leg work checking serials at pawn shops.

Q-TIP
05-04-2010, 07:44 AM
They have a report with the serial number. Dude on the bike unit says they rarely recover bikes any more. The police on the street have too much to do anymore, it would be a tradgedy if someone managed to get away with going 10 over while an officer was looking for a bike.

If your Insurance guy is telling you that he is new to his job, ask to speak with his manager.

If your bike is worth $1500 and your policy has a deductible of $500, and a special limitation for bikes at $1000, the deductible is applied first, than the special limitation is applied after.

$1500, less $500 deductible = $1000 settlement.

If your bike were worth $1200, than your settlement would be $700

If your bike were worth $2000, than your settlement would be $2000-500= $1500, than limited to $1000

Deductible is never applied before the special limit of insurance on any item *bikes, jewelery, boats, collectibles, cash, furs*

Two or three days ago I saw a dude that was riding in front of the Kensington Safeway around 5pm. As I'm in the market for a bike, I was staring at it and he rode by giving me a weird look.

It was the same colour and the rear suspension looked a lot like yours from what I can remember.

I'm always in the area around that time Monday to Friday, so I'll keep an eye out just in case he returns, worth a shot.

I have had bikes stolen in the past and man is it angering!

Thanks for the heads up guys.

And I will ask about what you're saying Ruggy...either way it will cost me a shitload more to replace than $1500 anyways if I want a bike of equivalent goodness...?

I don't think it has been spray painted. It MIGHT be but the bike I just saw didn't seem to be.

Man I really hope you find your bike. Maybe if everyone uses their 11:11 wishes for Q-Tip to find his bike it'll help haha.

But in all honesty I couldn't fathom someone stealing my shitty used Norco let alone a sweet full suspension Kona.

I'll keep my eyes peeled but I doubt I'd be able to tell it from any other Stinky's out there but you never know.

I had my bike stolen once in Halifax from my home. I worked about 8 blocks away at a mall. About 2 months later it was propped up against the wall in the loading dock of the mall.

Not being very big or athletic, I didn't stick around, I just took it back :D

the first link is clearly a bike store (looks like bow cycle), and there is even a price tag attached to the bike. i seriously doubt this is his bike, especially considering that it looks brand new in the pic.

I've never been to bow cycle, but i thought the racks kind of look like the ones in mountain equipment co. That could also be a repair tag if the bike was getting tuned up before a sale?? (ad says tuned up ready to go):dunno:

Fuckin eh, that's wicked dude!

Big LOL at the criminal though. Did you get a chance to see/meet/punch him?

Q-TIP
06-14-2010, 03:16 PM
I met the little Jersey Shore douchebag in person. Upon meeting him my first though was "This HAS to be my bike, no way in hell some spiky-hair D&G wearing dude is going to have bought and used a downhill specific mountain bike". I asked to take it for a test-ride, checked the serial number, rode back to his house and told him that the bike was mine. He initially objected but his tune changed immediately after I called the police, at that point he was more or less like "just take the fuckin' bike". Class act.

FYI, I still called the police.

Without proof of ownership any listing you find on kijiji or any other site is pure speculation. The listing may have already been taken down off of whatever site it was originally listed on or it may not have. In the end I'm happy to have my bike back and the police can deal with the situation however they like.

I had a serious case of the beer-shits following a bike ride. I parked my truck to run in to a public restroom in Dalhousie with it tied to the tailgate. Came back out much relieved only to find my bike gone.
