soo i just spent 2500 on a paint job.... came back like shit , well just not as good as i had hopes ( few runs , orange peel , dirt and hair in the paint and NO CLEAR COAT ) the car was red befor and went to black so the guy did the door jams and all that good stuff

just wondering if any one here does paint jobs ,

just looking to have a quick sand down, and a clean coat of paint set on and clear coated

i can help if needed , or i can remover bumpers spoiler ect ect just looking to keep my coast down as much as posable as the last paint job was a 2500 waste

Also its just the out side needing paint , no jams under hood or trunk

fingers crossed i can find a good deal !

How the hell did you pay 2500 and get that shitty of a job? Did someone paint it in their garage?

OP, why don't you go back and point out the issues and have the shop redo the job?

Paid 850 for mine from a Maaco and I'm happy with the results. Glossy, no orange peel, no masking fuckups, no runs.

well you see it was a friend of my uncles in bc , so i drove there and left the car there for a week and then went back to pick it up, like the guy must not have wet his floor at all

No shine , the best parts of the car were under hood , trunk lid and jams they came out fine

but the rest :( not impressed

as for wet sanding , im not sure how to go about doing it ,how far to go , and i cant clear coat it.

did he paint it with a single stage paint..if he did there will be no clear coat...if it was base clear, and he didnt put any clear on..then something is seriously wrong with him and you got scammed. as far as i know..if it is single stage..you cant just scuff it and spray base clear on top...they are not compatible...

97luder
05-04-2010, 01:36 PM
i believe its just a single stage , who knows what the guy did.

and one on here thing they can respray and clear coat ?

A bit off topic but how much does a decent paint job cost anyway and a decent place to go to? I've been thinking of getting the Z re-painted the same colour it is right now (silver) cause of the rock chips and scratches here and there.

screamin paint works quoted me 700 for just my rear bumper, same color. That's pretty intense, can't imagine what the whole car would be.

shakalaka

^Wow that does sound pretty dear. Although that $850 quote for the whole car, doesn't sound too bad and something I wouldn't mind doing. :D

Mine wasn't a colour change obviously, I kept it red so that it wouldn't look like ass with a different coloured bay, door jambs, etc.

It was just a scuff and shoot.

I might give Maaco a call for a quote or something. I am basically looking for the same colour paint. I hate the rock chips and some scratches that are on the car right now and would love to get rid of them and 3M that shit. So after the paint, did your car basically look like it was pretty much new?

The work will look brand new if it is a good shop like Screamin. With a place like Maaco, you take your chances. It's good value for a quick spray though...

Hmm I suppose my main concern is getting rid of the few scratches and rock chips here and there....as long as they do that.

Put it this way, it looks better than a lot of paint I see coming from the factories these days.

hmm maaco said I'd have to bring the car in and it would be 1-10k depending on the car... I just wanted a quick refresh

You could always 'roll your car'... ;)

As a painter, I'm fascinated by this process... I'm actually thinking of buying an older car just to give it a try and see how it goes. Who knows, if it comes out as good as the examples I have seen, it could be another wing of my business... lol...

don't mean to high jack this thread but does anyone know where I can get some clear coat blender, rubberized primer and adhesion promoter locally? I'm painting my side / rear skirts. I asked canadian tire and parts source so far and can't find anything.

You can spray clear on top of single stage. It gives the car a deeper look. If it is just base coat for 2500, that is a joke. Maybe the clear coat was sprayed and it just looks dull. The clear coat could have died off. Too much reducer in the mix, the painter may have ran out of clear and tried to stretch out what little he/she had.

no there is no clear coat , and i cant spray over the single stage as it has to many flaws , like runs , dirt and hair , and the worst NO SHINE :banghead:

Who knows, if it comes out as good as the examples I have seen, it could be another wing of my business... lol... many years ago -1980 or so- a friend's father (also a professional painter) painted his Rabbit (two-tone yet) with a roller- I wouldn't have known if my buddy hadn't told me- looked like any pro-sprayed car you'd see anywhere.

$2500, and he did jams for a color change? Wow , cheap.

Did you discuss quality and what would be acceptable before you came to a price?

Post some pics, I'd like to see what $2500 will get you.

As far as fixing it, it might be a total redo, if you're really not happy with it. And the second time is as never as cheap as the first time.

Good luck.
