Anyone have a Go Pro HD camera? What do you like/dislike about it? I'm considering getting one before the upcoming track season.

Here is a cool video taken with one:

I don't have the hd -- although my go pro is awesome in almost every way aside form the batteries $ and life; little short for my liking.

I just have the wide angle I've heard the HD is more prone to issues but thats just what the sale guy said, not my words.

I have a couple of the HD's, used them all winter off 50ft cliffs, moguls, etc, no issues at all. Can't wait to throw them on my car this summer.

I've heard nothing but good things. My buddy has one and it seems bulletproof. I agree though about the battery kind of sucking.

looking at getting one as well. where are you looking at this, the booth at chinook?

Using my HD in the water at Waikiki. Should be some interesting video.

Got a HD in Motorsport package. So far no complains other than picture quality is a bit poor and night performance sucks.

The CIM booth is no longer there as of December 31 last year.

Wrong.

I was talking to the guy there last night about it.

The battery life does suck and that's why I don't want to get one. You cannot have it run off power either....

I want one just for the versatility. I don't think I'd fork out for the HD one...maybe just the regular one. I'd like to see if it will work when I'm diving, since I don't often go over 100' anyways.

Battery life is fine IMO, I could use it all day in the cold mounted on a helmet, no issues.

It never left... It's been there since opening...

2.5 hours isn't enough IMO.

I have 2 non-hd wide angle and a HD wide with motorsport kit and love these cameras. I agree the battery life sucks on the non-HDs but I just started using rechargeable Nimh batteries instead of constantly paying for the lithium ones, and the new HD has the battery pack that lasts 2.5 hrs and I just bought an extra one in case. You can charge them with a 12v car adapter while your not using it to keep it topped up too if your running it on your cars.

I've used mine sledding, snowboarding and just got back from Belize and got some great underwater video and pics with it as well. I've even rolled my sled with it mounted with the suction cup and it stayed on and kept recording.

There's a stand at Chinook and Southcenter, but if any Beyonders are interested in buying one PM me and I can get you a good deal on new HD wide motorsports kits. Or make me an offer and I'll sell my 2-non HDs and upgrade.

I have one and bought an extra battery (thinking it would be the weak link). I ended up with a bunch of maxed out 8gb cards and still had power left on the original battery.

Recording at 60fps really chews up memory. I would say the battery life is excellent, but you really need 32GB cards.

:edit: I have the HD

HD is the only way to go IMO... soo clear and rich in color.

Went to both Chinook and South Center and could not find the kiosks. At South Center they said they packed up and left some time ago. At Chinook the information people never heard of Go Pro. I wanted to get one before a track day Monday. If there is one in Chinook where is it? If not, where else are they available?

I got mine from Cross Iron Mills a few months ago, they still have the booth up there. It's perfect for snowboarding! Slush cup here I come :nut:

Prices seem to be all over the map from who I have been calling.. Im not going to mention names but so far but I have been quoted:

$369.99, $355.00, and $340 from GoPro.

What did everyone else pay??

Buy 3 of these and mount them on your car at different locations...

This is a video I took with mine on friday, mounted to my bumper.

Does 720p instead of 1080p... but if you're uploading it to youtube does it really matter? Also note the quality and clarity of audio instead of WHSSSCCHSHCHSHSCHSCHHSH from the wind.

The GoPro cam is neat but I don't think it needs to be 350 damn dollars... There are better buys out there.

R-Audi
05-18-2010, 03:03 PM
I would also be using it in the water.. so GoPro seems like the best choice. (esp with 1080p)

If anyone else is looking, Rally Sport has a few of the HD ones in stock and decently priced, I couldnt find any others. (Without driving to CIM and searching for the kiosk)

Be careful ordering from GoPro. They are US based and ship via UPS. You'll get screwed on clearing charges.

VADO definitely has better video quality. But the lens angle isn't as wide and I think there are limited mounting options.

You can order them from Blackfoot also. Here are some videos of riding last year. These arent my videos but i am in most of them.

This is on the standard, we have a HD one also- the only problem is Youtube kills the quality.

$369.95

GPS City (http://www.gpscity.ca/gopro-motorsports-hero-hd.html)

RallySport still has them beat.

There is also an add on Kijiji listing at 320 brand new (sealed in box).. Im sure you can get that a bit lower.

I bought 2 HD Hero's from the kiosk at Cross Iron Mills. The kiosk is located in the Sports section of the mall. I believe I paid $369 each for them. Considering it was a Sunday and I wanted them for the track day on Monday I am happy with the purchase.

I just ordered an HD one today from ATV Outfitters. $268.95 US, free motorsports mounts, free shipping to the lower 48 states. I'm working in North Dakota so I figured I should take advantage of that. It wouldn't be as good an idea if I had to get it shipped to my house in Canada.

Last hitch I ordered wheels, tires and an exhaust system for my quad. They're really good to deal with.

Used a gopro on a ride yesterday mounted on my tank. It worked so well, the anti-shake system it has works amazingly. I thought the video would be useless the camera was so shaky. took 1200 photos at a 5 second interval and put them into a 25fps time lapse, and also got some interesting footage of my steering damper saving my butt haha. I wish I could justify the price for one of these, but I can't right now.:(

We are a dealer for the GoPro as well.

GoPro HD Motorsports $349 shipping is included http://www.autoobsessed.com/shop/gopro-m-64.html

These units are great, we took a bunch up to Cold Lake for Race the Base. The suction cup mount stayed on even at speeds over 300kph. Some of the footage in the ZR Auto Race the Base DVD are done with the footage taken from the GoPro's.

dude dont waste your money on the non hd. my buddy has the normal one and i picked up the hd hero last year and the hd is incomparably better. we both use it for racing motocross so there is a ton of information trying to be captured and it seems like the non hd doesnt produce a smooth video, unlike the hd.

i love my camera, works wicked, awesome video quality (sound is decent...) id recomend buying offline and saving some cashis :bigpimp:

and the helmet version:

I may have to pick one of these up for the summer

Looks like the first link (960) doesn't do 1080p while the second one does (CHDHH-001)

Xtrema
12-14-2010, 11:49 AM
not only the 960p doesn't do 1080p. It also doesn't have the 60fps 720p mode. So it may impact the quality of slow mo.

But you save $100+.
