Has anyone ever done this? I have searched google and it is like a 50/50. Some people say it is OK and others say it is plain dangerous

Any information would be helpful

Thanks!

What car? What do you plan to do with the car? Normal driving is fine.

2009 corolla S.
I am going through a phase where I cannot stand stock and have the urge to spend money lol

I will probably lower it, but that will be in the future

215/35 on an 8" is minimal. Keep in mind that the amount of stretch will vary with the brand of tire you choose (ie: Falkens usually fit smaller/stretch easier).

... that is not a stretch... i beat the piss out of 215 wide tires on 9-10 inch wide rims often with no issues... and that is still not really stretched

here is a site that will show you pics of different sized stretches.. one to note would be my old wheels... 285 on a 13j

http://www.tyrestretch.com/index.php

i had no problems with that setup even on a 4500lbs car

haha thanks for the replies.

I think the 215/35 tires have a preferred rim width of 7.5" so I did not understand how an extra 0.5" could make such a big difference

I am completely new to buying wheels/tires so yeah...

it makes 0 difference

but i think you are also missing the point of stretching a tire... it is not something you do just because, it is for fitment reasons...

lets say you get a wheel and you want it to sit flush with the fender and have the car nice and low, if you had a large tire on there the edge would be square and would hit the fender causing damage when you go over a bump, when you stretch a tire on the wheel it brings the tread into the fender and you are left would room for spring compression thus, flush with no damage

so in reality you want to test fit the wheels with no tires, see how much room you have to play with then choose a tire that just squeezes into the fender

it will be rougher... but when you lower the car it will be rougher too... so comfort (more so on our shitty calgary roads) will go down dramatically... but that is the price you pay to handle better and look better

yeah i see what you are saying. my car has an offset of 39 and these are slightly less so i should be in good shape. Especially with stock height

There is some good information in your post and I appreciate you sharing

do you plan on lowering it?

yes but that is pretty far in the future. probably 1.5" drop in the front and 1" in the back or something like that

yeah it does not sound like you are going very aggressive with the wheels or drop, i would recommend a wider tire, no point in downgrading if you do not have to, more width is always better

go 205/40/r18 on 18x8

you should talk to bob at urbanX, last time i was in there he had some really good tires sitting around that he could do a great price on

I have 215/35r18 on my 18x9.5. A little stretching help prevent injury.

bump

i blew one of the tires so now i am shopping for some new ones. I want tires that will fit the rims they way that they are supposed to be i.e. sick of curbing them, feeling every bump in the road, dont care for low pro or not. all i want is comfort and affordability.

so rim is 8", what is the standard? 225/40/18?

thanks

what was your stock tire size?

I run 245/40/17 on 17x8's, they're grippy, very comfortable and fit the rim perfectly. I know Michelin Pilots have a an extended sidewall to protect your lips from curbage... might be worth it if you rub concrete a lot!

I currently run:

225/40/R18 on a 9.5 up front

225/40/R18 on a 10.5 on the back.

no issues, ive even drifted on the 225 10.5 wheels and the beads still held up.

Your measurements are pretty mellow.
