View Full Version : Coupe for under 30k

I'm looking at buying a Coupe for under 30k.

This is what I have narrowed it down to so far; but I am open to more if you have some suggestions or criticism.

-2010 Nissan Altima Coupe
-2010 Hyundai Genesis
-2008 Honda Accord Coupe
-2003-2007 Infinity G35
-2006 Acura RSX

At first I had my heart set on the Honda, but I have heard complaint after complaint about the rear brakes on these things, so I'm and reconsidering.

I'm now leaning towards the Altima the most, but I'd have to go with no features to keep it under budget, same goes for Genesis.

I like the idea of the Infinity or Acura, because I could get one fully loaded

Overall I'm looking for reliability first and foremost.

Any help is greatly appreciated, and like I said I'm open to new suggestions and criticism =)

If your heart is set on the Accord, why not get one, and put in aftermarket brakes?

You can get an 06-07 g35 for a hell of a lot less than 30

I'd probably go with a G35 depending on condition.

I like the Accord better than the Altima, and the rear brakes in Canada is now covered under warranty so they replace it for free at dealership.

That sounds very promising, is this in writing anywhere?

And how many times will they cover it?

Basically from what I've heard, the rear brake pads need to be replaced every 15-20k because they wear down so fast.

I understand a lot of these cars can be bought for considerably less then 30k. I don't need to spend that much, I'm just saying that's the most I will spend =P

I've also been looking been considering a Nissan 350Z, it'd probably have to be 2003-2007; but I don't know a whole lot about the car.

I have a letter somewhere stating that it's unlimited free replacement for a number of years. Can't recall right now 100 percent right now. Depending on how you drive it can wear down pretty fast, I think I had mine replaced near 30,000 km.

I think I saw a 2008 Accord coupe on sale on beyond for under 30g-have a look.

Ooh, I've had a new liking lately for 350z, to be honest I don't know much about g35 or 350z, but I do like the look quite a bit.

Other then the obvious brake issue, how do you like your Accord so far?

Which model do you own?

I would go with the 350z. 287-hp 3.5L DOHC V6 6spd:drool:

You can get an 04-05 for less than $25K

I considered G35 myself but damn the resale on those are complete crap. I would rather go with a 350Z as mentioned above.

RSX, still a fine looking and driving car. Final year so you know it was done up right. Tons of aftermarket stuff as well, just a great car IMO.

eBay has a few with low milage.

It really does. Get a G37 from the US or buy a 6 speed G35. In manual, G35's are reliable.

Obviously I am biased towards the Z. If you aren't bothered about it being 2 seater and stuff, then go with it.

7yrs ago ... people change.

Hell, 7yrs ago I had no clue about things like control arms. I honest of god thought suspension parts (e.g., wheels) were held on by wire, lol.

At this dollar range, consider only new. Genesis base is on paper one of the sportier ones from the list above due to its rwd platform .

Just curious which models you are comparing for the Genesis, Altima, and Accord? Cause technically all 3 starts under 30k brand new - so kind of puzzled why you're considering a 2008 accord?; however once you start packaging them, tax, etc, most will be over 30k unless you take the base model?

The Altima and Genesis would have be base.
The styling on the 08-09 Altima Coupe is very bland compared to the 10, and why I ruled them out.
With a 2008 Honda Accord I could have a lot more options.

It may sound lame, but I don't need a sports car per say, but a reliable stylish car.
So 4cyl is fine with me, although I still prefer to drive stick.
I actually prefer a FWD, because I go to the mountains every weekend to Snowboard in the winter.

It's probably why I like the Accord and Altima options the most.

As for a Ford Mustang; it's just not my style, same with the Camaro and Challenger.

Haha, Fair enough.... forgetting all additional things you want. I assume your looking at the ex-l 4 cylinder with no navi? But if your considering brand new shoot me a pm cause I have a contact at honda that can get you a good deal.

Try a good set of winter tires, I'd take my rwd Benz or old Volvo with Nokians over the shit FWD Civic with average snow tires that I used to drive, any day of the week.

Canada's rules are stupid and won't allow it to be imported here. We can have EVO's and SRT-4's now, but no Elise's? So gay.

What's the point if you can't get them down here? I was in the same boat and had to drop the idea.

Hmm, I learned something new but that fucking blows. They are an absolute steal in the US for $/performance IF we could bring them up here. I guess that's why we don't see that many on the roads.

I would go after the Gen coupe. think you can get the 2.0 gt which is the fully loaded turbo for around 30k. and the turbo engine has a lot of power possibilities

This is indeed a very nice car, but there really are a lot of quirks with the first generation model right now, the biggest one being the transmission.

Most 10' Gennys are having serious manual transmission issues, with grinding from 4-5 gear or some cases all of them.

From my experience with Hyundai, I'm not surprised, they have never had a solid stick.

The Accord is a mess with the brake problem, going through the hassle of getting the dealership to honor the "free replacements" gives me a headache just thinking of it.

The Altima Coupe, really does seem to be the most reliable and finished car in it's class right now.

If resale is crap compared to what you think the car should be worth, it's the exact reason you should buy it used ;)
