View Full Version : Best Daily Driver??

Hry Guys,
Looking for a new Daily Driver, that would have a lot of potential in the aftermarket world? So far I am absolutley torn over the Subaru WRX, Lexus IS300 and Lexus GS400.
Reaons:

Subaru WRX-By far the best deal since the car only needs about 3-4 mods to make it a mean machine, only thing is I see a lot of them around now and even 2-3 totally modified ones here in Calgary which takes out some of the pride in owning one. One draw back in these cars is the top end power isn't as strong as you would like it. $37-$42K

Lexus IS300-With about $3000 in performance parts this car can make 220WHP, a far cary from the potential of the WRX with that kind of cash, but I haven't seen one full modified Is300 in Calgary.
Plus it is luxury over race bred(WRX) $36K-$43K

Lexus GS400-Puts down 300Hp & around 300lb/Tq from the factory and has potential for more with some "bolt ons". Lexus quality and luxury for a decent price. $39K-$44K

I also considered some of the Beemers and Benz's out there but shyed away from them I guess. Let me know what you guys/gals think and list the pros & cons of your choice.
Thanks for reading.:burnout:

I'm not big on the whole import scene, so I doubt that my opinion will matter to much to you. I would say take the WRX, because i think that car is really good for the money you pay and such. I would try to stay away from the Beemers and Mercedes because the base price is to high and fixing anything would be costly.

It totally depends on what you are looking for...

If you want more sportyness go the WRX... I have only seen 2 really done up ones in Calgary, and honestly any car you buy someone is going to already have semi done up. No import will touch a WRX stock for stock. and like you said with a few bolt ons it can be a mean machine.

A guy down my street has a IS 300 done up a bit... lowered w/rims, personally I don't like those cars and they are more luxury.

The GS 400 is a great car, from what I have heard, but also more luxury. Has big #'s but also is very heavy...

Tough call man... but from those choices I would say WRX

That is a really tough choice. I can tell you that I have driven both cars a lot and they are both good in their own ways...you wont be dissapointed with either. I promise.

Personally, if you are planning on driving the car year round the choice would have to be the WRX. Sure, there's tons of them around but that should tell you something about how fantastic they are, especially as year round daily drivers. Get an extra set of rims and good snow tires and the car is practically unstoppable in any weather if you know how to drive it.

If you were looking for a summer only car, or are looking for a more luxurious car you'd probably be better off looking at the other cars before the WRX.

as above... i totally i agree , go with the WRX because it will kick ass in the winter and keep the supra for the summer:drool:

those cars dont even compare to a GS400...id get that... v-8...or even a GS300, mass amounts of engine mods for the GS300's motor.

He already owns a Twin Turbo Supra though ;)

I agree with the 350Z comment though. I want one of those so bad! RX-8 comes out in April or so. Also keep in mind about the EVO and the WRX STi in the near future ;)

if you want to mod an Impreza, get a 2.5 RS and turbo that. It'll cost around abouts the same as what you would do to the WRX. The advantage is having the extra displacement to give you more torque

GS400 baby, that is one sweet ride, with a touch of class as bonus

lol. no don't do that. the high compression and weak pistons can't handle as much power compared to the stock wrx engine.

Agree

Why would you want a non turbo and risk your warranty?
2.5RS are great cars but it is no WRX baby!

A turbo RS can be every bit as good as a WRX except in one area: reliability. An aftermarket turbo setup will never be as reliable as a stock one if you want to make any kind of power with it. Not to mention the WRX has a superior chassis to the GC8 imprezas anyways.

Thakns for the opinions guys.. This car would be daily driver year round so RX-8 and 350Z are out, but for the price those are VERY good cars..
I am loving the WRX & GS400 idea, GS400 can be quite quick as it is a sports sedan and can compete with the BMW 540i and the new Maxima, Infinity G35, CL Type S etc. etc.

The WRX is a great choice too, but I am leaning towards the luxury of Heated Leather Seats, 300HP V8, mad-looking headlights and the possibility of putting together a really nice car never seen before in Calgary.....
Thanks for the input guys and I'll let you know what I go with.

True. But I don't race, so vehicle weight doesn't really matter. If I wanted to race, I would have bought a faster car. I don't need speed as much in my old age :)

I wasn't refering to weight (although that is usually a factor) so much as a leather seats total inability to hold you in place during corners.

true. I didn't even think about cornering...
