as the title, dont know if it will be right away or what but im looking at getting some suggestions. the gas mileage on an SUV is just too much at this point and now since my son is getting bigger, we dont really need one anymore and were not having anymore kids.

that being said, im looking for something decent on gas, 4 door with some options and at least some sort of power and it has to be automatic.

im looking at the max 11k mark but im not sure what cars to be looking at in this price range that fit this profile that are reliable aside from the standard honda accord. i did find a 2005 suby impreza rs, if anyone has one of these can you shed some light on what you think of the car ie gas mileage, power, comfort.

thanks for the help!

That should give you all the info for the suby. A 2001-ish Audi A4 should suit your needs and price range as well

ya i looked at the specs but that link is much better. no go on the suby, not good enough for us. how do you think your jetta fairs to what im looking for?

I know you don't want one nor does it make sense but I'm just going to say this to get it out of the way because two or three fanboys will. WRX?

believe me, if i could, i would but my wife is a meh. plus fuel economy isnt the greatest and neither is cargo room, still gotta have a good amount of space for the kid, just not SUV space.

Nissan Maxima is pretty good bang for the buck, if you don't mind FWD.

WRX is best.

Seriously though, huge Subaru fan. To the point where I'll recommend anything Subaru. Entire family drives them. We have an 00 Impreza and 02 Forester since new and zero problems. Definitely in your price range. Over the years, just oil changes, brake pads and general fluid flushes. Great on gas, uses 87 and any decent mechanic can work on them. 166hp motor decent on paper but slow as hell in automatic lol

2002+ Maxima with the VQ V6 would be my suggestion if you want something with decent power as well.

Fuel economy is good, mines the 1.8T but if you got her a 2.0 it'd be even better. Being a Volkswagen it's interior build quality far exceeds almost any other manufacturer.

However, since you want a 4door you're probably interested in good rear leg room. If that's the case, a Jetta isn't your best choice. The MK4 generations really should have been a 2door. It's a sedan that has no business having 4 doors

A Nissan Maxima 02 + and up would be a great buy. Also maybe look at an E46 330i. Costs more to maintain but good buy, and pretty reliable and great on fuel

Well brother, let me tell you. I owned a 2003 SE with a 6 speed stick for about a year and on the highway at 120 kph it would get about 7.8 L / 100 KM. In town as long as I was driving relatively normal it would be right around 10 L / 100 KM. For the amount of get-up-and-go that thing had the fuel consumption was outstanding.

I currently own a '04 with a 6 speed as well. Good on fuel, good power and lots of options.

Have had it since Dec/09 and no problems so far.

Jetta with hatch, Subie with hatch or Mazda 3 hatch. No hatch; not the most useful car for a one car family. Plenty to be carried.

No to Audi, BMW, etc as they will cost a small fortune in repair bills down the road.

No Hondas from my end? WTF is going on?

Just to add on (and because I feel like a complete dumbass for not saying it before) If fuel economy is what you want, Jetta TDI

i might be a little biased as well (subaru driver) but personally for me it would either be

subaru impreza wagon
audi a4 wagon
jetta wagon

c63 amg wagon as dream family car

thanks for all the replies. wagons are out of the question. she doesnt want to feel old and apparently a minvan or wagon will do that. i would totally go with a wagon but im stuck. i never though about a cts...anyone own one? any opinions?

alright, so the SUV is gone and im looking for a car now. im still toying with some ideas, but right now im looking at an 03 G35 4 door. any opinions on this car, hows the gas milage on the auto, any personal experience with problems with it that i should look out for?

I had one for a bit ^ it's pretty reliable, pretty big pig on gas, no real problems with it. The styling is looking dated now too IMO. Good cars though - I prefer them greatly to the Acura TL, and they are more reliable than the BMW 330i.

when you say its a pig on gas what does that mean? how much to fill up from empty to full and how many km to a tank?

like 80 bucks to fill and about 450-550 to a tank. Not great for a family sedan - and apparently they take premium. Not really sure why as the VQ is fine with regular

well thats out the window then, thats way too much gas. i cant make up my mind about what to get.

personally I'd get a BMW 330i, they may be slightly unreliable but they are pretty good on gas and look great, handle great, accelerate well. Either that or get a G35, they may be expensive on gas, but they still drive decently and are pretty reliable. I don't like it much, but the Acura TL is reliable and handles decent and is better on gas than the G35. Transmission below 04 is terrible, so get 04 and up.

i need some reliability and good on gas. im leaning towards a audi 1.8t or a jetta 1.8t. any opinions on those cars as far as reliability?

We had a Maxima before switching to the ENvoy for the family. It was perfect and we loved it. Get 2002 or newer, for $11K you could get into a 2004 used (i.e. newer body style). Excellent reliability, superb ride, tons of features. let me know if you have any Maxima questions.

It was about $50 on average for almost a full tank and it would get 500km per tank pretty regularly. It was less on insurance than our previous Ford Focus too, that was nice.

RIP my dear Freind, 2002 Maxima.

I was under the impression that these two manufacturers sucked ass for reliability.

If it were a few years down the road I would say you should check out a used 4 door Genisis or Sonata. Hyundai has really stepped their game up.

I think the Acura may be your best bet.

Can always try the Mazda6, the gf loves it since it's so comfortable, if you get the v6 it uses regular gas as well

Don't know much about the vr6s but I've heard as long as they were maintained they will be good (like anything). Also, the vr6 sounds amazing with exhaust.

As far as the mazda 6 goes, I test drove an automatic version about an 07 I believe and I didn't like a thing about it, didn't feel right to me what so ever, thats just me so take it for what it's worth. :dunno:

looks like i found myself a car! 04 mazda 6 gt v6. dark grey metallic auto, black leather, heated seats, gfx package. im not sure how good on gas it will be but it will be a hell of alot better than the Bravada.

anyways, im only picking it up if the inspection turns out good, my question is where is the best place to go for an inspection?

02-03 TLS are nice, and well as the 3.5 Maximas. I have owned both and they were very reliable with good fuel economy, quick, roomy.

CTS probably not a great choice. They tend to depreciate fast and the base CTS isn't that exciting. I used to have a CTS-V and that was fun to drive in nice weather.

Used Audis and BMWs in general would be more expensive to maintain. I used to have an older 325, and a 01.5 Audi S4.

I would suggest the Maxima or TL-S.
