I just picked up a 510 today for $400 in running condition with a safety inspection. My first car in 5 years so I am pretty excited about this. My goals for this car are really good handling and some decent power. Looking for ideas from fellow beyonders. I was thinking KA swap for it as I would like to keep my budget low, here are some pics

Since your already thinking KA swap, why not get the KA24DE and turbo it, cheap, easily done, tons of un-wanted SR20 parts around to do it and tons of KA engines un-wanted if you blow it up.

I would definitely consider doing a turbo ka in the future. I guess my immediate plans are reliable moderate power and crazy handling for a decent price. I would love to see this car slammed for this summer. Afaik there are quite a few engine options for this car, so I am looking for good bang for buck. So far I am loving this car though, perfect island car and great in the corners

Nice find, my first 510 was a '78 4dr.
While your car is the later H510, you can still find some useful info in the project threads over at www.the510realm.com and http://community.ratsun.net/
Also known as the Stanza and Violet in different markets around the world, you may have more luck finding upgrade info searching these names.
The KA would be a good engine choice, it'll be lots of power in its stock form for this car and give you time to upgrade the diff/suspension and brakes before you add a turbo.

That car looks pretty straight for $400! Nice find indeed.

I can't wait for this thing to get insured. It'll be killer rippin' around the island! I like the idea to slam it down to about 6-8 inches. Also, a 240sx engine in there would be pretty badass man and I think it would be really fun to drive.

Sweet ride, I've had a few 510s through the years... Personally I like the Z24 (early truck/pathfinder) with the dual sparkplug head decked .05, injection off one of the 88/89 Z24i's - run an MSD6 ignition then a K24 turbo. Last engine I built like that, dyno'd out at 180hp - with only mild boost and no intercooler... Needed 91 gas but it was a great ride...
