Not sure how to explain this right...

Having a problem with Motorola Phone Tools, and Vista.

Every time I plug in my RK20 - Vista auto detects it as a modem. Motorola phone tools then is unable to communicate with it. If I go into device manager and disable it as a modem - then Phone tools can communicate with it properly (to download pics/messages/backup)

Tried deleting the driver - but vista automatically reinstalls when it gets connected... Then I have to go into device manager and disable it again...

Obviously I'm an idiot - there's got to be a way to stop vista from doing this every time... I don't want it as a modem, just want to be able to charge/transfer files to/from it...

^^Way to help moron. Your posts get better and better.

OP: you should be able to disable the auto detect of that device.. or disable it and tick off a "dont ask me this again" thing.

Have you spent time looking at the properties in the device manager?

There may also be a setting in the phone that decides whether the phone is detected as a modem or as a storage device.
