So the shop decided to get some food delivery, thought we give the Chinese food a little ring-a-ding-ding.

Called up this place http://www.pekingpeking.ca/
#232, 8338 - 18 Street SE, in the Riverbend Shopping Centre. (perfect for those who works within the Calgary Auto Mall Glenmore)

Dude answering the phones was very courteous, spoke good English unlike other places with them angry bitter old Asian ladies (i.e. "HI, WHAT YOUR WANT; WAT, WAT cannot hear u, I know you screaming, but speak louder")... Though he was a bit confused when we ordered by number (#64), but he insisted that we're going to be getting number #54. Took a while till that got sorted out.

Delivery was on time as rough estimated.

On top of that, we requested some bubble-tea, however, they didn't have none. So the owner/guy on the phone/delivery driver offered to grab them from another place on the way. What great service.

What more do you want when the owner himself pulls up in a brand new scooby delivering your food?
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Past%20repairs/Random/100_4295.jpg

I had mango slushy bubble tea, the entire Chatelaine Auto Spa crew got Taro (I used to like Taro until I found out 95% of places uses powdered shit) :barf:
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Past%20repairs/Random/100_4298.jpg http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Past%20repairs/Random/100_4299.jpg

He even remembers to put enough cutlery for us all, unlike some Asian places that'll purposely "forget" to give 'em to you. (to save a few dollars)... Ended up not needing the given cutlery, I offered to return the unused plates, forks, etc... but the owner was so generous he insisted we may keep them.

http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Past%20repairs/Random/100_4300.jpg http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Past%20repairs/Random/100_4301.jpg
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Past%20repairs/Random/100_4302.jpg

This place doesn't cheap out on the sauces and extras neither, as most Chinese food places are known to again "forget" these sauce essentials. (saves a few buck, that's how most can afford nice bling cars for their kids, BMW's, Benz, Lexus)
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Past%20repairs/Random/100_4303.jpg

At the end of the day only cost about $47 plus change, I gave the guy $50, should be enough for being CASH.

Feed 3 full hungry mouths, with leftovers for another complete lunch/afternoon meal.

Double wrapped fortune cookie, does this mean anything??? Or just equivalents to little Jimmy Wong being fired from the fortune cookie factory for wasting profits?
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Past%20repairs/Random/100_4304.jpg http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r95/Tomcompany/Past%20repairs/Random/100_4307.jpg

Makes me ponder, why does fortune cookies have to be limited to just Chinese restaurants? Why can't we give these out at hair salons, massage parlors, auto shops, etc...?

We would definitely buy again.

I'm going to give these guys a try even though it's on the other end of the city. All the good Chinese food places in the NW seem to have closed down.

I would like to clarify the #54 or #64 debacle! That was totally my fault all 'round haha I wanted the #54 but with the veggies that are in #64 and we were on speakerphone sorta and all laughing.. it was a disaster...

But I have to admit, through all that, I got exactly what I wanted!

Peking Garden used to be good 10 years ago. Really authentic. They either lost their chef or changed their menu to appeal to more people.

:werd: and bubble tea and strippers.

This place is so good, had to work on the shop today, chowed down on the leftovers and it still tasted like fresh outta the oven.

So it's NOT like you need to pull one of those d-bag moves where you leave the Chinese take-out leftover in the fridge for a week, get a new order next week (of the same things), heat up last week's leftover, eat the new food, go back to the restaurant with last week's leftover and bitch at the owners trying to scam free food telling them how soggy their food is, how "bad" it tasted, demand refund and future credit. Tell them how long your family tree has been getting food from their establishment (the "loyal" customer asking for free shit trick)

Sounds like a quality establishment. I heard back in the day it used to run a "Big 2" Racket, where a consortium of car tuners hung out after hours. Dont know who those guys were but sounded like legends at the time. I know one had an MR2 that was never seen, another had a Prelude with Rain Gutter Side Skirts and DUDELVR as a licence plate, some dumbshit with an old GTI, a CRX with broken CV Joints, and a porn star with an SLK32AMG, alabaster white if my mind serves me right. Plus some loser with a Probe turbo, Simba owned a T4 Lude, and someone with a black civic with white wheels. Lots of JRSC integras too. Yah, I'll have to give it a go some time. This was a LONG time ago. :dunno:

I haven't gone there for a few years after the renovations. I think they may have changed ownership some time ago too. Their portions are smaller and definitely not as good as before.

I'd recommend Bobby Chao's and Shanghai Palace in the NW.

I don't normally order chinese food because of previous bad experiences of take out chinese. Today, I manned up and decided to try out this Peking Peking place for the first time that Mr. Max_boost owns. Unfortunately, there's good news and bad news.

First the good news:

Answered the phone professionally and well spoken (as Tomco mentioned). Although didn't have the items I was looking for, I completely understand lol. Food arrived right on time! Food is very well priced and comes in large portions. I opened the bag and saw an order of eggrolls and immediately thought 'dang, they gave me the wrong order.' But as I was shifting through the bag I realized it was the correct order, and Mr. Max_Boost was clearly trying to buy a good food review on beyond lol. Ordered noodles + beef/veggies and was expecting a medium sized take out box. Nope, it was in a large family sized take out box and filled to the top! Didn't chinse out on the sauces either. Food was delicious! My daughter is a very picky eater and I've never seen her eat so much chinese food.

And now, the bad news:

A small SUV pulled up onto my driveway, and not an NSX

Going to have to try to give this place another try. We ordered (off this thread) around a year ago and were pretty disappointed with the food. It was bland and just didn't have a lot of flavor in any of the dishes we ordered..

Might have been an off day or something as we were stoked to initially read about this place since we live not even 5 minutes away.

First experience just didn't live up to anywhere near the hype. Have ended up since ordering from Douglasglen or Bill's..

Will try to talk the wife into giving it another shot sometime soon.

Hey no worries! Thread wasn't meant to slam your restaurant or you by any means. Just saying the last and only time we tried it, things didn't work out.

I'm willing to give it another chance though. Hell, maybe we just have a bad sense of what good food tastes like seeing as we're white folk and all ;) When the majority of people rave about the food like on this thread it just makes me think we might have tried it on an off day or something

Living in quarry park its the closest place to us so would love if it turned out much better the next time around

The servings of Hot & sour soup are insane.... I had take out a while back and my friends were amazed at how much soup I got for the price.
Great to have such good eats for such little $$$.

^ A surprising amount of people think so. Most people are amazed to find out hes a 290 pound 6'2" asian dude in the back typically carrying a bat waiting for the next person to give bad press on here about the place, as well as waiting for the next "non-payers".

That little "asian dude with the glasses" plays up on peoples ideas then POW. Cracka's on here be flossin' with no teeth when they least expect it next. :nut:

(FWIW: thats his younger brother)

I need to check this out! Considering how much I love chinese food, and the fact that he's a fellow beyonder. Max, I'll be home in Calgary on the weekend, you willing to deliver to Wentworth Estates? It's right beside Aspen. You come down yourself, we'll chill out, talk cars and eat your food. I'll still pay you for the food so don't worry. Haha:D

Dude that's 25km away, other side of the city. Just use Ginger Beef Express in Coach Hill - great dumplings.

In general anything that's the stir fry variety is more "healthier", usual chicken/beef/seafood and some sort of vegetables.

It's chinese food man. Go for flavour, not health!

lol ya, and I find most of the deep fried stuff all tastes the same. sure i'll get some, but having 5 different things that are fried is kinda a waste imo.

so still looking for a recomendation..

Well you can always try different stir fry sauces.

i.e. Ginger/garlic sauce is your most basic stir fry, then there's oyster sauce, curry sauce, satay sauce, black bean sauce, chili sauce. So that should mix it up a bit for you.

LOL well every place is going to be different you just have to find one that cooks a style that you like best. That's what it really comes down to. I've had a customer call in to tell me they just had the worst take out ever lol and 5mins later another customer calls me to tell me it was the best ever. I was basically :nut: Both of them lived in McKenzie Towne and we had dropped off their deliveries back to back.

Anyway More Than Ice Cream should be pretty good. I wonder if they are still owned by the "Lau" family? I was really close with the daughters back in the day. How time flies.
