Hey all,

I am currently looking for some 5.1/7.1 headphones for my gaming set up. First off, my requirments. I want them to be able to play on my xbox as well as computer, headset would be nice but not necessary. Under $150 CAN and would like to use them to listen to my ipod every once and a while (removable mic?). I have been looking at the Tritton AX720's (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826235008&Tpk=ax720) and they seem to fit my requirements best. Anybody here have these or tried them out? What are your thoughts on them? If you have any other suggestions i can look at let me know! Thanks!

Howdy, I currently use the Trittons 720 and they do their job, unfortunately I don't think you will be able to use them on your Ipod. The Trittons are not actually 5.1 but rather they are stereo headphones which imitate 5.1. You will be able to use it on your Xbox/PC as it comes with many adapters. I bought the Trittons for about 130 which isn't so bad. I recommend checking out the TB X41 but these fellas are for Xbox only. Another you should check out are the Astro A30 because these should be a portable version of the A40 which are 5.1. The only problem is the cost will bring you to about 300+ Hope this helps, oh and I forgot to mention, the Tritton headphones are MASSIVE.

How does 5.1 work on 2 speakers?

I think the 5.1 headsets actually do have all the speakers. Just very small.

I use the AX720 and yes they are simulate 5.1 with only 2 speakers. If you want true 5.1 head phones you need to go up to the AX pro, which has 4 speakers in each earcup.

The sound quality and build blows the Turtle Beach ones out of the water. I bought the P21 from a store and took them back the next day, I ordered the AX 720s and there is no hissing like there was with the P21.

I use it on my PS3 and on my PC with the Optical output. You can use the 3.5mm jack adapter if you don't have optical but I don't think you get 5.1 because it bypasses the control box. You should be able to us it on your Ipod with the 3.5 adapter.

Oh and the white makes you look PIMP!!!!

you're comparing headphones worth $75 to those worth $140... really not a fair comparison.

Razer Barracuda HP-1 are what I have and love them. incredible surround sounds from them and only 110 dollars too.

Yesterday in BC2 I don't think anyone managed to sneak up on me thanks to these headphones.

It does work very very well, and that's coming from someone who always hated "virtual" surround bullshit. A lot of audiophiles actually prefer it over actual 5.1 headphones.

Well, I never said it was a fair comparison.....

You know someone was going to say "why don't you just go to Futureshop and buy the Turtle Beach P21?", which is why I posted my experience.

I don't think the Barracuda works on an Xbox directly?

Hey, for game and music, i suggest Logitech X-540 5.1 Surround Sound Speaker (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000JJM8XE?ie=UTF8&tag=froogame-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B000JJM8XE) System, With this 5.1 surround sound system on your side, you'll hear every footstep and where the bullets are flying from. Frequency Directed Dual Driver satellite speakers and a thundering subwoofer create a three-dimensional soundstage that envelops you and immerses you in the action. From crisp clean highs to deep thumping bass, this is everything you need to go from playing the game to feeling like you're actually in it. But i use this 5.1 Gaming Headset (http://www.sourcingmap.com/surround-sound-usb-gaming-headphone-headset-with-microphone-p-40566.html) , it has an adjustable padded headband and soft earpads that make me comfortably during extended listening.
