I had an aftermarket hood on my old winter beater Civic that did the same thing. I never bothered to paint the primer and it ended up looking a lot like this.

I think it looks cool if done right. On newer car's it looks fucking stupid, I mean you rusted a perfectly good hood. I would say older cars it looks cool. The car has to be painted with a matte finish though. When the rest of the car is shiny and the hood is not, it just looks out of place.

It's one of those things that it either has to be done to perfection or it doesn't look good.
