Not bad for a first car! They usually go for about 8-9k with higher KM than 151 000. Options are pretty good too.
It will be good for learning how to drive a standard too (if you didnt already know) :)
Give him a call and go for a test drive and tell us what you think.
You gotta get a Silvia conversion if you get a 240SX though. GOTTA!
Does it have AWS? My friend had that exact car. I hated the thing. Handled so sharply at high speeds that it was scary. Clutch was really stiff and only went in a couple inches, so it was really awkward to drive. Rear seat is useless. I believe it'd have the KA24DE engine in it. I say save up and wait till an S14 with an SR20DE comes along.

If I were you i'd go with a car that didnt have so many kms. There is practically no point in putting money into a car thats far past its prime. Sure it COULD run all the way into 250,000 kms, but thats still only about 5 years of driving, and all the mods you put in in that time would go to waste.

Youre 17 right?
At your age insurance is going to be insanely high no matter which car you insure.. to the extent that the difference between a minivan and your 240sx is going to be a small percentage.
Or you can try a different angle
You can say that if you get a 4 door, you can carry more people = bad, males have been proven to become complete idiots and feel like they have to show they have cajones and therefore do life-threatening things when there are 3 other guys in the cars with them.
With the 240 you realistically are going to only carry 1 other passenger eggin you on/bitching at ya.
Depends on what kind of stuff your mom reacts to..
you can also say you can get in more trouble with 3 other girls in the same car, if that will get a reaction out of her.
Other than that, shes right.. sports car = more insurance.
so gotta think hard and start up the spinmaster!

ahaa yeah shes like Sports cars are so small and crammed up you can't fit no one.
point A) i don't want lots of people in my car.
i don't want it to weigh down, and more people in car = more roudy we get.
hahaha yep. right now for van i pay 80 dllarsa month joint account with my dad.

dude my friend had 2 240 sx's, and in winter those things are HELL! even going from mckenzie to southcentre was such a big hastle, especially with the anderson ramp off of deerfoot. but you can also look at it on the good side, it's kinda fun to be sideways going down anderson!

Hey lammer, the best thing to do is get a bunch of quotes from different companies for insurance, on a bunch of different cars (pick a range of cars, some sporty some not). When I was first looking at a car, I was 18 and basically it didn't matter what I bought. If you are only going PL & PD without collision your insurance is going to be almost the same no matter what you buy in terms of an older car. If you can show her the insurance on the 240 isn't going to be outrageously high compared to the other non-sports cars you are good to go.

not to scare you but be prepared to pay anywhere from $6000-$8000 for insurance.

Another vote here for winter tires for the 240sx. My friend drives a 240 and he wiped out pretty bad after hitting a small patch of ice. The car was out of commission for over a month, if I recall. Sandbags in the trunk won't help that much.

hey 4wheel, what does PL & PD stand for?
and im using that kantetix site or whatever.
right now im under my parents name on the van, does that count as insured? and all that?
okay on the site i found that TD Insurance Home and Auto, gives me a year coverage of 2261 dollars. (188.42 monthly) now im not sure if i did it correctly. i took that stupid classroom stuff, passed the test, and it has given my some reduction on my current insurance, do you think this company will take it? or is it mandatory that i get some discount because of the class, or is it by choice.
i dont know what any of these things mean.
Liability//Accident benefits//Uninsured automobile and unidentified driver//No.44 - Family protection//Collision coverage//Comprehensive coverage//No.13D - Comprehensive coverage limited glass//No.20 - Loss of use//No.27 - Legal liability for damage to non-owned automobiles//No. 35 - Emergency road service//No. 43 - Limited waiver of depreciation//Theft protection//Multi-line discount

PL is Public Liability. PD is public damage. These are the absolute bare minimum you have to have to be considered insured in alberta. Anything else (collision, theft, fire, glass etc) is all extra and optional, unless your bank or financing company requires them.
Most companies will give you a discount for drivers training. You just have to fax them your certificate as proof. Check to make sure they do offer that program though. Its not required to take any discounts on your insurance, though why you wouldn't want to :dunno:
That price, for bare minimum coverage is not too shabby. At 18, I was paying about 2400 a year on a mustang for PL&PD only. Maybe someone who is more familiar with insurance can explain exactly what that policy you were quoted includes.

I own a 240, not a great car to start on...
S13 have tons of mechanical problems...after 100 km, and are really costly to fix.
like mentioned before they are hell in winter... you wont be going any ware with sand bags in your rear....or winter tires...2nd gear launches...for a small junker they have too much torque.
go fwd.

if you drive a half decent vehicle, you want to atleast get collision which more than double's the price.

Buy an old tempo and put a 150 shot of NOS on it :D The good thing is if you wreck it you can buy another for $500.
I'm kidding...or am I? :dunno: :nut: :D
