What will you be using it for, a daily driver year round?

I was in the same boat as you last year, I was looking at an 08 S4 in Van when I found the carrera 4s I have today. I thought well it is AWD, I saw them being tested all the time when I was working in the NWT so I figured it could handle an Edmonton Winter etc. I also thought I was a single guy so I dont really need a back seat.

But now I am regretting not going for the S4 for practicality reasons. If you have another vehicle, bigger car/SUV for when needed then go for it. It was the best winter driver I have ever had (other vehicles, 01 Audi A4, 04 Subaru STI, BMW 325xi, Dodge Durango, Toyota Tundra, Ram 3500) But there is no trunk basically in mine (3ft wide, 1.5 ft long, 1.5ft deep) with my emergency kit in winter, I could fit 1 set of boots wither ski or board, so even though I had both on my roof, I had to choose 1 pair of boots in the morning. Costco trip? Forget it. Forget fitting a suitcase in the trunk, good luck getting even a big one in the back seat wont happen. it has the 4 seats, but the two rear ones are pretty well useless for anyone over 5 ft tall that has to be in them for more than a few minutes. Having basically the two front seats is great when its just you and your woman, or want an excuse not to be a designated driver, but forget going on a roadtrip with the boys. I came down to Calgary with mine and had two friends, one sprawled out across both back seats, and in just the 3 hr drive down, he was sore for the next 3 days.

As much as I love my car, I am seriously considering keeping it and buying another vehicle, I would still daily the porsche, but use the other vehicle for errands such as groceries, skiing and road trips. or selling the porsche and buying something that has everything I need in 1 package (I really like the new m3 sedan)

BF, makes good points. I wouldn't have it as a daily driver. It would be a blast to own, I can see why you're tempted. However, even in the summer I go on trips, or golf ect, I couldn't imagine having it year round.

Correct me if I am wrong, I only assume you're using it in the winter because in other threads the S4 was a deal breaker if Audi didn't throw in All season tires on the house. I also thought you were going to grab an X5 M, did your boss end up choosing a new toy yet?

Edit: meant all seasons, not winter tires.

Another good point even going golfing, is a pain, you cant fit clubs in the trunk and the bag is so tall and akward that putting it in the back seat scuffs the shit out of everything.

A great car to drive in winter and summer on a daily basis, just not suited for all the duties required of a daily driver. If I pick up a second vehicle, I will still drive my porsche every day winter or summer, just on the occasion I need something from the hardware/grocery store, trip for more than a few days with more than a few people etc.

Or how about a 993TT?

I'm a huge 911 fan and I would probably end up going for that if I had the choice, but that said, when I went to a 4 door sedan from a 2 door coupe, I can't help but love the practicality to it.

I looked at 993s before getting my STI, was close to getting one brought up from the US, but did think about other factors apart from the fun factor, plus the 993 could really end up hurting my wallet if it had issues.

The 27 year old in me says go for the S4, the 16 year old in me says go for the 911.

^ 993's hold their value more than a 996 would. the 996's are a complete bargain right now.

$25K off is a great deal ... :D

I am pretty sure, other than the sound and looks (subjective), that the 996TT is far superior than the 993. The 993 is the icon of the aircooled era but that time is over.

that aside the 964's are the best looking 911's of all time lol

?? Really? I hear it all the time and I agree 100% The 93/94 Porsche 964 Turbo is quite possibly the best looking and rarest one out there.

Don't get me wrong I love the 964, I daily drove mine for two years through summer and winter, what a great car it was. I just always read it was thought of like the Ferrari 348, kind of a stepping stone to the 993 like the 348 was to the 355.

Interesting cross shopping you are doing there.

Porsche all the way if you don't need backseats and only serve summer duties. Even with the back order, S4s are getting quite common on the road now.

Only insurance company will consider those as backseat. Not even midgets can fit in them. It's trunk space for whatever doesn't fit in the front.

I've had people in the back seats quite often. It's really not that bad for short trips, especially when it's the gf's friends... though that's easy for me to say from the driver's seat :D

The black 911 Turbo in the movie Bad Boys is a 964. That is the car that most people refer too when they think of a sexy 911 turbo.

If you don't do your own maintenance be prepared to shell out a decent amount of cash every year.
