I just thought I'd drop a post here about the Rocky Mountain Rally which happens this weekend (May 28/29). This is the second national Canadian event of the season, with a slightly different event schedule format, including the official start of the rally being held in downtown Calgary this Friday! You'll get to meet north american rally greats like Patrick Richard and Antoine L'Estage, as well as myself (natch). ;)

Follow this link for more information, and be sure to come out to Kananaskis country to specate the Friday stages (really easy to get to, really great spectating spots, lots and lots of action)!

Really want to check this out this year. Probably make it out for the downtown start and all day saturday.

Sorry if I missed it in the PDF, but when/where does the race actually start on friday? It seems there is a meet n' greet sorta deal from 11-1 downtown...I can only assume it starts at the same place as that.

In years past when the ceremonial start was downtown it was on Stephen ave, in the block of the Telus Convention Center.

I have my winch working again so I'll be chasing the cars in what is forecast to be some nasty weather. This is my favorite event as the porcupine hills area boasts some of the best scenery, spectating and camping. Glad I have my mud tires on now to find my toque, gumboots and parka.

And I will be there with you in my role of "Winch Boy".

With the weather forecast being RAIN, the "Shit Show" factor should be high.

I'm there, but you don't wanna see me. That means something has gone awry. ;)

Everybody stay safe and have a good weekend!

Well, I'll be there. After working at the Oregon Trail Rally, I'll be here for this as well.

See some of you Saturday morning.

Yeah that's me. "Big dude" - kind way of putting it ;) I'm working on taking care of that.

Ambulance is supposed to be stationed at the crossover spectator position all day tomorrow, and hopefully we'll have no work, same as today.

.....so that was the sloppiest, muddiest mess I've ever seen. It would put a lot of other off-roaders to shame.

I have a new found respect for rally driving. I drove the 1st leg of the race in Kananaskis even at a slow pace it's hairy.. imagine balls to the wall with 500+hp.

Cool show.

Pics from Saturday are at the above flickr link as well.

Ridiculous conditions yesterday. Started late because many of the roads were impassable and had to be "beaten down" by heavy course vehicles before they were usable. Still had to abandon the southernmost leg because it was too dangerous to try to get rescue vehicles down there (so it was pointless to try to race where they couldn't be reached if they were to crash/be injured).

The modified plan was cut short by two stages again when reportedly some of the drivers were uncomfortable with the road conditions.

In any case congratulations to Antoine L'Estage and Nathalie Richard for their first place finish.

Jay - thanks again for the repair to my finger in Car 0. Two days later, it's amazing how many times i need to use my middle finger but can't due to the bandages.....

As for the shortening of stages at the end, the competitors were not the reason for scrapping the stages - rallymaster based the decision on preserving what was left of Skyline road (getting badly rutted)...

Either way, it was an interesting weekend, that's for sure. Great pics.....:)
