Does anyone currently have classic car insurance ? If so who is it with and what are their requirements? I've heard the costs of this insurance are low and I really don't drive my car enough for normal insurance to be worth while.

THanks

My father has it on one of his vehicles.

I believe there are restrictions as to how much you drive it, as well as it has to be a certain age. I'm sure if you talk to your insurance company they would be able to tell you...

Its considered a pleasure vehicle so you can't drive it to work/school. It has to be older than 25 years. Has to have an appraisal every 5 years. Nothing that states mileage though. My dad pays like 200/year to drive his 53 chev 1/2ton.

True classic insurance is a pain from my understanding - you can only drive to/from gas and parades/exhibitions. Very very resrictive.

There are all sorts of different policies out there though. it depends on the cars and what you want. For example, on my cobra I get 16,000kms/yr, agreed upon replacement value via appraisal, and only costs me about 500/yr (for a 100kish value). Same with my SLC ..... but the only catch is for that policy the vehicles had to be > 25yrs old, hehehehehe. 1965 SLC > *

25 years eh? I had always thought it was after 15 or 18 years a car became a classic, that must just be the states then.

there's different categories I believe

I think classics are like 20 or 25yrs. Special interest is like 18 or 19. really varies and I think depends on the insurance platform.

I'm sure MB can provide more insight.

Most insurance companies that you would have your regular auto policy with should have some kind of classic or antique program as well. I've also heard that Competition Insurance has a kick-ass program (if you qualify).

I just got an email response from them about their policies.

The policy does have a couple of restrictions which include: 1) All drivers must be licensed for 10 years or more, and 2) the vehicle is not a daily driver getting to and from work or business.

The policy coverage includes: $2 Million Liability, Accident Benefits/Family Protection, $100 deductible Collision, $100 deductible Comprehensive, SEF 19A Valued Vehicle endorsement (insures vehicle for appraised value without depreciation), $7500 Spare Parts, $1500 Towing (flat deck) and there is no mileage restriction.

The coverage is the same for the Silver Wheel or Custom Wheel Plans. Most vehicles are now able to fit under the Silver Wheel Plan as long as the vehicle is not completely modified.

Seems pretty decent! If I didn't drive my MR2 to work 1/2 the summer, I'd probably switch it over. Definitely going to put the wife's '72 Gto under this when it's done. $40,000 for $364! (with 2 mill. liability, $100 deductables on Comp and Collision)

$10,000 for the MR2, would only be $124

Who did you use for the appraisal, and how much does that cost?

I used Scott Hobbs from http://www.avagroup.ca/

IIRC, it was $100 for the first one, $50 to update it
