I been looking around for a project car recently and found this idea....i buy a crap mirage and drop a evo engine in.....

anyone know if a 1999 Evo VI 4G63T would fit in a Mitsubishi Mirage Sedan?

http://www.cartunemotorsports.com/neishlin/mitsubishi/l/4g63t-evo6-04.jpg

i found this motor which is almost new, and the people selling it tested it on another car, 320hp @ 7000rpm. selling it for 4000 USD, and i found a crap mirage for 3000 USD... and conversion body kit would only cost 1000 USD...

is this a good idea?

that would be :bigpimp: man
dunno if it'd fit tho, i'm more of a honda guy, not really a DSM guy, but i don't see why it wouldn't, might take some custom fabrication tho, not sure. i mean if u can get a lude engine to fit into a 2nd gen crx, don't see why u wouldn't be able to put the evo engine into the mirage.

I don't think that would work, but I'm not a DSM guy either. But I don't think it would work because the EVO is AWD, and the Mirage is FWD. I'm sure you could make it work somehow, but it would take tons of money.

Is it just the motor? or the driveline too? Unless you could get the driveline I doubt it would be worthwhile, or that it would even work without a lot of custom fabrication work.

It should fit no prob. I've seen it done before. I think (not 100% sure) that the engines are pretty much the same, except the evo engines have stronger internals...and the tranny is much different between the Evo AWD and the Talon AWD system.

I thought of this project a long time back too, and did some superficial research on it.

so it wouldn't be possible to drop a Lancer Evo motor into a AWD talon?

hrmm...interesting. I think it should be possible.

It would, but it would require some work. IIRC the Evo motor is rotated 180 degrees compared to the talon motor in the chassis, so the layout of some items is a bit different.

lancer evo 1-3 motors would work in talon/eclipse

there are a few evo converted mirage's in the states.

Woooo that picture makes me drool...! :D

The pictured engine would be nice but I don't see it "dropping in" to a Talon/Eclipse frame because AFAIK the drivetrain is on the wrong side. :(

very easy conversion to do!!

except the rear end you'll need

You can get every thing for the conversion from the tunk lid, hood, full body, headlights/tail lights from VIS Racing... i think they also stock the motor...with all the necessary parts you will need to put it in...

i went to the warehouse a few times and i talked to another customer and he said they installed a GT-ST RB25DET for him on his 240sx.... so i'm like wondering, and i saw his car, man that is beast having a R33 skyline engine in a 240sx.....  and they got it emission legal....

Well, assuming it came with everything needed, including all the computer to control the active diffs and everything else, if the mirage body has a driveline tunnel I couldn't see it being too bad. The installation is still going to be killer, not to mention who knows what kind of fab work might be required to make it fight. I'd look around for someone who has done that kind of swap before and get their advice on it before you commit.

yea thx for the advice.......i thikn if u can fit a R33 engine in a 240....i think its possible for a mirage evo...they are almost similar...

Zephyr you should talk to RRE, they're the only guys in So. Cal. that I would trust to know whether that EVO transplant is even do-able. :)

Oh, that's http://www.road-race.com BTW. This is their new site which isn't quite finished... but you can get their number and email to contact them. ;)

Read the HCI Mag for this month...if they can jam a 5.0 L 302 V-8 into a ford focus I think you can fit your engine no prob....be one heck of a learnin experience.

Anything is possible, its a question of whether or not its worth the effort.

That is true..in the long run it all matters how your time and money will stretch.
