Saw this at the Seattle Premium Outlets on Monday:

Haha sorry about my hand.

Anyway it's the real deal and not a body kit. I also have a pic of the undercarriage showing the rear diff but who wants to see that. Best of all, it's LHD!!! Apparently it was for sale back in 2007 and for quite a nice price actually:

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1358029

I am still wondering how this thing was legally registered... I got questioned by security at the mall after I finished snapping these. The guy had no clue what the car was and thought I was up to funny business. He let me go after he saw how giddy I was and how every punk walking past was checking it out.

There was someone bringing in Evo's from Europe long before Mitsu decided to.

There were a bunch of Evo VIIs that came in before the EVO VIII was release south of the boarder.

I can't seem to google it, but I remember wanting one back in 2001 or 2002.

I believe it's a device to prevent airbag theft (and the steering wheel from turning).

airbag theft is huge in the states, they go for anywhere from $100-$200. steal 20 in a night $2000-$4000 a night.

Coming from a huge EVO fan, that is one awesome spotting!
I'd be tempted to figure out a way to get this up here (there are others for sale right now)....

And i'm not scared of importing (done it 8 times now)..

These will never make the RIV list of importable cars. And unless somehow it's registered as a "regular" Lancer, I think the last resort is to disassemble and bring it in as a kit car but I am not sure of the rules. Or.. You can wait until later next year and bring in my fave Evo: the EVO IV.

Not doubting your explanation.....i've had a rare EVO before (one of the lucky VIII's before RIV finally changed the rules)....it would definitely have to be reg'd as a regular lancer in the US for it to come north (and from what i know, i don't believe Mitsu even had a regular lancer available in the US until 2003)...couple more years, then we can find the TME's ourselves.....

The RIV list says ALL Mitsu's are admissible, yet it might be a "grey market" vehicle... I wonder if the Registries would pick up on that, as the VIN would still be 17 digits, and probably just list it as an EVO

Read a bit further in the explanations page from RIV about that list.....Key words are that admissable means the vehicle was certified by the OEM supplier to meet all US federal motor vehicle safety standards.....this grey market car would definitely throw up a flag - again, there was no regular lancer for sale in the US until 2003, even if you could get away with that "mis-labelling"....

This particular car in question was converted from RHD to LHD, so that would make it even harder.

Only a few more years to wait (2014). Hopefully they don't change the 15yr rule until then, this is in my top 3 dream cars.

I don't think so... According the NASIOC FS post, there were 1000 LHD TMEs of 5000 produced.

Here's another LHD example for sale:

http://www.rallycarsforsale.net/clas/index.php?ct=fsrca&md=details&id=47025

Would be such a sweet car to import. AND.. I'd assume much easier to get a windshield for since I'd assume it'd be the same as the regular USDM Lancer of similar vintage.

Wow nice!! First thing I'd do is rip off all the gay-ass decals and then install some factory Recaros from a GSR! 2800lbs and 300HP through 4 wheels is A-OK with me! So what the fuck is the dealy with getting these things into the US legally??? It's gotta be a loop hole that someone has learned to exploit... Or someone is sucking a lot of federal cock. Barring some really big fuck up at RIV, there's no way this could come to Canada.

The Evo VI is my favourite of the Evos. Nice spot, I wonder how it got here.

Chantastic
06-05-2010, 05:59 PM
As someone already stated, it's a Evo VI not a VII. The link to that white Evo is a regular VI, so you can see the cosmetic changes. I'm sure the internal changes are minimal, so I can understand why any non huge Mitsu fan won't really care. However, for an Evo guy like myself, this is incredible! An awesome car already, and the Tommi Makkinen edition (TME) is even rarer. It screams WRC. In fact, it was available in WRC livery: http://speedhero.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/evo6tme.jpg

I've actually been in that Evolution in October 2007 when it was first for sale. He wanted 30,000 USD (which at the time was favorable since our dollar was 1.10/1.00 USD). I was literally about to purchase it before I was diagnosed with cancer.

The owner kept that thing mint, it had less than 30,000 kilometers on the dial, also being the first and only owner of the car. He had purchased it in Sweden on a trip and had it shipped over to Seattle straight away. I won't post how he registered it but if you are interested shoot me a PM. He had gotten every single Ralliart upgrade available for it (tower bars, suspension, etc). The car smelled new when I hopped in back then, I really regret not purchasing it and just storing it somewhere in the states. If I had a chance to now, I'd even pay 50,000 for it just because of how special this car is. The car is registered legitimately and isn't a chop up special.

There were less than 1000 Evolution VI Tommi Makinen edition Lancers produced and only 80-90 LHD variants. The official designation of the LHD 6.5 was RS2 - all intentionally for rally teams. Out of those numbers only 25 were produced with Air conditioning and head units, this one having both.

Ironically I also got to meet the people importing the LHD VII's while on this trip, and got to jump into a black one in Kentucky. The LHD VII's that were being brought in were rediculously shady because they were bought in Europe, dismantled and shipped over to the Carribeans, re-assembled, shipped to the states and then registered in Florida (due to their lax importation laws). Afterwards the potential buyers depending on which state they were from had to get testing and jump through loop holes to get it registed for road use. The business eventually folded and the owner who tried this importing business jumped over to head TVR in the states... Don't ask me how I know.

As for Scat, you are getting this Tommy Kaira mixed up with Tommi Makinen. Makinen is an absolute beast having won the world championship back to back 4 times before jumping ship to Subaru. He retired quite quickly after Citroen came in and started kicking ass left and right.

I should really try contacting him again and see if he is willing to part with it...

That's interesting that the guy went on to head up TVR's US operation, considering I suspect TVR has to do some pretty sleazy stuff to import their cars (without ABS, 5mph bumpers, airbags, TCS, etc). I sure don't see a lot of them in North America, sadly. :(
