Hi.

Instead of spending over $40.00 for a cap like this:

http://www.homedepot.ca/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CatalogSearchResultView?D=902896&Ntt=902896&catalogId=10051&langId=-15&storeId=10051&Dx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntx=mode+matchall&recN=0&N=0&Ntk=P_PartNumber#reviews

Can I just use a cheap vent with a separate flapper that installs in the roof?

It seems to me that a flapper installed in the roof would function much better given that it's not directly exposed to the cold and snow.

What kind of "cheap vent" are you looking at?

Thanks for reply Tik-Tok.

I was thinking of something like this for a few dollars:

The price isn't so much the issue, but rather the reliability of the back draft flap.

That would work, but honestly I've never heard of anyone having problems with the flapper at the vent, otherwise they wouldn't still be making them after decades of use. Snow would have to blow at just the right angle to get up in there, and then melt, and then freeze the flap shut for it to not work.

Ok. I guess i was just over analyzing something that's simple.

Thanks for the advice!
