Low WiFi mbps out of nowhere

I have a wireless connection to my D-Link router and a few days ago the speed used to be 56mbps. Now the speed is either 5.5 mbps or 11.0mbps. I can't figure out what to do to fix this and it is getting very annoying. If anyone can tell me how to solve this problem it will be greatly appreciated.

unplug router power, wait 10 seconds, plug back in. If that doent work, try right click on network icon and go repair. If that doesnt work, update drivers.

yes or upgrade router firmware and change its channel. the lower channel 1, is usually best if its not over used by other people.
