makin a older automatic car a manual

my bud owns a 75 nova, and its automatic. what would he hafta do to get it to a standard (i understand older cars usually were 4 speeds for manual... is there a way to make it a 5 speed? like throw in a mustangs transmission or anything? )

thing is if he can do this, im lookin at gettin a nova myself as a cheap project car... cause he bought his for $300 last year, and only needed to replace the muffler. His car drives amazing heh but he hates automatic but for 300 how can ya be picky right? ;)

im lookin for one 1000ish and id get it in a second. i dont really mind what shape the body is as long as it runs strong. even if its automatic id get one and then get it standard some how.
