Household income: Hawkesbury, ON
Distance to work: Vaughan, ON
Percentage of health professionals: split (Cold Lake, AB, Leamington, ON.)

The only one that surprised me a bit was Thetford Mines... I actually spent a lot of time there when a Girlfriend of mine did 2 years of College there. I never thought it was that dirty. maybe it is just from the fact it is built on asbestos mines... :dunno:

I am surprised Kenora, Ont made the list. If I had the cash, I would be moving there.

that cold lake statistic. Do you think they took into account base doctors? I dont know but I thought families of members could use base doctors and that would cause the odd numbers.

I went to hockey school one year in Summerside. It seemed pretty nice.:dunno: May have helped that Sidney Crosby was there, and Brad Richards was one of the coaches.

Like everyone else... surprised my current place of residence wasn't listed (Winnipeg).

Was in Summerside, PEI almost a month a ago. Haven't been there since I was a kid, but it does seem smaller.

Stoked to see Prince Rupert get on the list twice. I like that town, althugh i agree that it's both rainy, and a hard place to find a job.

Amazed to see Kenora on there. I spend a lot of time around there in the summer and it's GORGEOUS. Lake of the Woods is absolutely huge and there's lots of fishing, hiking, quadding and stuff to do around there.

Kenora is on there as it has a lack of cultural attractions, so if a museum with old crap and a concert hall offering Bach are not your thing, Kenora is the place. Frankly, for the vast majority of Canadians "culture" is meaningless, Kenora is a great place.

Funny, Williams Lake has been the home to a chunk of my family for over 30 years... they absolutely love living there... in fact, all but one of the family members still live in the 'puddle'.

I'm surprised Prince Rupert wins twice... Kitimat (about 2 hours away) lost another 550+ FT jobs in January which should push their unemployment rate to the top of the charts.

Prince Rupert & Kitimat were the two top centres for population decline in the 2006 census as well... not a whole heck of a lot going on in that corner of BC, that's for sure.

New LNG terminal going in at Kitimat, run by Apache.
Plus Crude oil export terminal, I think run by Kinder Morgan.

Enbridge I think.

The Enbridge pipeline may never see the light of day as long as the opposition from the local population stays as strong as it is...

I can't believe Fort McMurray didn't make the list in any category.

Probably not, all the doctors living in Cold Lake are probably enjoying all that military money, leaving the small amount of people with no connection to the military without medic professionals.

They give them signing bonuses over 150k for a four year commitment and if you are sent to a war zone you can be making over a million in a single year. Surprises me there is a shortage of doctors in the military, but I guess when you're already making near 200k a year as a civilian, how much more could you really want?

And Lethbridge 11. Sure it's a great place if you love extreme wind every day and happen to be allergic to fun or excitement. How can I take that list seriously really?

I laughed at Williams lake but only because 6 years ago we stayed there one night on a trip. In the suite we got we discovered that the matress in the pull out bed had a large bloodstain on it. I was later led to believe it could be menstration but still off putting to say the least
