View Full Version : Beyond CSI

I've been away for a while, since I got rid of my civic, and haven't been keeping up on beyond.

Finding myself with some spare time in the evenings, I've decided to start reading again.

And all I see are repeated "Beyond CSI" threads.. Does everyone assume that because of the whole claw thing, they can call on Beyond for the smallest thing? I'm all for the online community helping, but it's hilarious to see that every single person thinks that they fully deserve the full power of the online for the tiniest issue..

"Beyond CSI: I dropped my wallet down a drain, help me find it!"

Jesus Christ people! Stop labelling all your shit "CSI".. I see no Crime Scene Investigation going on, do you? I see online research and some bored people with connections.. How about "Need help from beyond about ----"..

Good to see that's there's at least a little originality [/sarcasm]

I'm not reaming out every thread either, as some are legit. But I mean simple questions, or small tasks don't really require the full brunt of the online community. You don't need to assume that your problems are so overbearing that you can't solve them yourselves.. What did you possibly do before finding beyond?! And most of the people putting up these threads are noobs!

Either way.. I think someone stole 10 cents from me, and I need Beyond CSI to help track down who it was, and get me 10 cents back.. I'll even offer to pay 10% of it to whoever gets it back to me.

And I wouldn't be surprised to see this thread turn around a little on me as well, as that seems to be a common occurrence as well.

There are legit cases from time to time. I agree that too many people. Especially n00bs are the ones that continuously post for CSI help for stupid fucking reasons.

Meh, if you think it is a stupid reason, don't help.

It isn't that hard :dunno:

And I don't, trust me. But it's very cluttering when you see a few "Beyond CSI help" threads over and over.. The only one I've seen that was even worth opening recently was CUG's.. And that really didn't even call for Beyond CSI, from what I read, that just called more for legal advice.

the landscape of beyond has changed. you cant really do anything about it. with the explosive growth in its member base, the kind of interactions that went down on here even 4 years ago isnt even remotely feasible or possible these days.

beyond went from a tight knit community, to a city. in terms of how its members associate with each other, its only natural that the incidence of new and existing members trying to "cash in" on beyond "services" has gone through the roof.

I agree though, the novelty has kind of warn off. Now "beyond csi" has been reduced to fb stalking. (not that it was that much more before... but atleast it was somewhat effective, and an entertaining ride!).

dont sweat it man, old beyond is long gone, just enjoy new beyond!

You have no idea.. And I can't get it out!!

I'm all for cashing out, but I mean, it's kind of repetitive, and at least partially describe the issue! Maybe it should be it's own subforum?

Thread should move to suggestions if you want it to have a subforum...

Hahaha I know what you mean, sometimes it's facepalm worthy. I don't mind it for the same reason I don't mind trev006 around: Adds to the forum and increases the possibility for epicness. I never say no to epicness.

I agree with you OP, to a degree.

Fact: The user base and search engine reach of Beyond has grown to such a degree that posting major issues online really can get results. Yes, it is overly optimistic to expect every issue will get properly resolved just because of the whole Claw thing. But if one is lacking other options, trying to get resolution via Beyond is as good as any other attempt, imo.

With this said, I too am annoyed by the noobs which sign up and immediately ask for help. IMO, only those who regularly contribute to the forum should have any reasonable time spent on their issue.

And as far as the word "CSI", I am not sure exactly where that came from, and it is a ridiculous comparison. Of course, how many people *truly* think the investigative abilities of Beyond couple be comparable to that of the police? I think it is just more of a playful acronym...

Epicness cannot be cultivated.. It has to happen naturally, in the wild. It can't be grown in a lab.. ;)

My situation isn't necessarily in need of "CSI" work. I know who did it, who was involved and so on. My interests lay in two things:
1)Notifying the general public of this fellow.
2)Possibly getting information that would be conducive to tracking him, should I need to approach him with legal documents.

I paid the price for messing with a N.E. chick 5 years ago, I guess.

I agree that some threads are getting out of hand for sure.

i didn't read your full post but I hope you get your dime back. I'll keep a lookout in the SW and downtown. I think I saw a guy use a dime for a Starbucks in Kensington, but it may have been two nickels.

It's been a while since I've watched CSI, but if I remember correctly, they go to a crime scene where a crime has been committed, gather evidence and then use that evidence to solve a crime.

For the claw incident, a crime was committed and through investigation, members of Beyond were able to find a suspect. This would be more inline with Law and Order.

Beyond CSI used to be legit, but now it is exactly like 4chan and everyone just tries to use them as their own personal army.

Half the time now I see Beyond CSI jump on conclusions before anything is really brought to the table and just makes themselves look like idiots. The wrong people get flamed with band waggoners then half way through the thread you truly learn who was in the wrong and Beyond CSI is sitting holding their dicks.
