BMW is charging an arm and leg for it so I decided to get a blank key off Ebay.

I called BMW dealerships to get a price quote on laser cutting and programming a key. They will not laser cut the key that I have. Instead, they like to charge me $200 for a new key.

I called locksmith but they don't do laser cut.

Is there any other place that I can try?

There is a place called Budget Auto in the NE, he charged me $30 or $40 for one once

DAN THE LOCK MAN would charge me $300 to cut and can't program a key.

Looks like the dealership is the only choice I have.

anybody has updates on this matter?
BMW was a nicer thief, now my friend is stuck to pay over $600 to get his Range Rover key.

they dont have teeth on the outside. instead they have the pattern cut on the top and bottom of the key. it only cost me 80$ for a laser cut key from Mercedes Benz maybe its because mine was an 1983.

So I talked to "South Center Fine Cars" and they don't want to do it because after market keys might wreck their machine...I don't know if that's a valid reason or not...

That's the only VW place having that machine to laser cut a key.

BS. My RR key, I found a replacement on eBay for $80 new uncut. Went to Heads locksmith. They cut it for me for $10 because I was a returning customer. Went to the rover shop to program it for $47.

In total, it cost me around $150 for a replacement fob
2006 Range Rover Supercharged. Don't bs with the $600 crap. Even Land Rover tells me that they'll do a replacement for $400 MAX which includes programming.

they're not actually cut with a laser. They are machined with a flat endmill.

that was me you talked to.

unfortunately, it is company policy to not cut aftermarket keys or keys from other makes. we've had to replace our drill bit before because of that and it's just not worth the $10 i would charge you.

give Heads lock & key a call. they should be able to do it for you.

On the same subject... Our Audi has only one key, I have be meaning to get spare for years, but at the time I was quoted $400 for the thing. Have prices come down that much for these things?

It's a 2001, I don't believe it has a chip, but I don't know how to tell for sure.

That's who I always use. They're great. Except they close very early so I always have to rush when I need key(s) cut.
