OK since everyone on here always brags about the fastest car they ever had, why not have a post on what the slowest car you ever owned. These cars must meet the following:

1) powered by a motor (No pushing)
2) somewhat worked
3) heavier/Lower HP the better

To start it off, I myself had a 83 Tercel that pushed about 50HP or something like that at bout 2000.

1979 Malibu 4 door sedan. 3.3L v6 (i think). Top End when I got it was 105 kph - blew black smoke out the exhaust - worth every bit the $100 I paid for it :)

hahaha yeah me too. I used to have a 1991 Firefly... slow as molasses, but great on fuel.

My old 1980 Mustang 2.3L/auto coupe was pretty damn sluggish too... in fact, I would say it was probably the slowest car I ever owned.

The Firefly had a manual, so it could at least *sort of* get moving... the Mustang, no. It was like 0-60 in 20+ seconds...

The Mustang ended up with a 351W & C4 transplant... so I suppose it was the slowest car I ever owned for a brief period of time... ;)

I had a 1986 Honda Civic Sedan with the Hondamatic tranmission, that was damn slow. I think my 1984 toyota 2wd carburated truck was slower though. My current Land Rover is also pretty damn slow lol.

06-10-2010, 02:52 PM
Define slowest? :)

My old 60s austin mini was absolutely anemic with it's worn out motor - but cornered like a mofo. Was pretty competitive in autox - but merging onto deerfoot, the onramp was never long enough :)

80s lada niva was a dog; but offroad - near unstoppable.

70s Mach1 Fast on the 1/4 but you start needing to turn (ie going through kickinghorse) and you were slower than the mini... Big block drank up so much fuel you couldn't pass a gas station without stopping - so long distance trips took forever...

1991 Volkwagen Golf with the natural Diesel engine, had 400,000kms and lots of blow-by,car would top out at 130kph.

1983 Ford ranger with the 2.9L V6. It had poor compression on all 6 cylinders and would smokes and puke oil out the breather from all the blow by.

1991 Buick Regal. Had the 3.8L V6 which made good torque but the car must have weighed well over 4000lbs and had 380,000kms on it.

58 Land Rover. I once got it to 80kmph on the flat. That was near top RPM in 4th Gear. They say if you go over 90, it blows the headgasket because the motor turns too fast. I think it had about 45HP at the crank.

I had to drive on the shoulder for awhile before I could merge on the highway. I've never drove the Deerfoot 500 with it.

1962 VW Bug, 41,000 original miles, no radio, no heater and mint. See if I can find a pic somewhere. Slow was fast for this car, eh too cute to care. Never left me stranded, what more could I ask for? Sold it two years after buying it, replaced spark plugs, windshield ($50) and two tires. Made $1,200 on the sale, never done that since and I have blazed through eight cars post VW.

I also had a 1964 Corvair, bought fan belts by the six pack. It was slow but seemed fast when a city cop t-boned me in an intersection. He had no lights on, was going to a serious accident on the edge of town. His fault, but screwed me for a hockey game that night. Us goalies are a fragile lot, made me get the pull for the first time.

I have a thing for 60's cars.

Had a 1982 VW Westfalia diesel, ever been passed going uphill by a Pinto? I have. One had to not so much drive the Westie as anticipate and aim, I stopped for nothing if there was a hill to be had.

1968 Chevy Impala. It had a 327 small block V8. I think stock it was around 300 HP, but I switched the 2 barrel to a 4 barrel carb, new intake manifold, New Air filter, and dual exhaust. Then again the blocka nd internals are freakin old so I have no idea what it was putting out but the car was ridiculously heavy so it was slow. It beat a certain beyond member`s firefly though back in the day.... :D

Slowest top speed - my truck (Dakota 4.7 V8)

Slowest acceleration - Saturn Astra, this is a momentum car, it handles pretty well so I have to keep the speed up around corners or I am stuck. I once got stuck behind an old Park Avenue going through Crowsnest pass, I caught the old bastard every corner but couldn't keep up to him on the straights. My co-workers always ask why I drive slow and I have to tell them my foot is already on the floor

Probably my 87 v6 firebird. I think the stock spec was 140hp and the thing weighed at least 3000 lb. I know it had under 100 whp, but I was in highschool so naturally I thought (and drove it like) it was a rocket. :(

It had a pretty lame attempt at a DIY cold air intake, cat delete, flowmaster 80 series muffler (I think??) and that was about it. Didnt have money to do anything else to it, thank god.

132 hp when new, I'd guess about half that remains since the bitch up to 305,000km.

LOL my parents bought a brand new 1983 Toyota Tercel Wagon 4wd a year before i was born, i remember going on trips all the way to vancouver and i understand now why it took us 2 fken days, looking at the specs now it was 1.5L 62 HP with dual-barrel carburetor... lugging around a family of 4 with a 4wd drivetrain underneath it all on the mountain roads haha

anyways this was the slowest car i've ever had, by the time i got to drive it there was probably only 45 HP left i bet , as soon as i turned 14 i was driving this thing everywhere with the rents, i learnt how to drive in this thing during the winter as well as learnt manual tranny in it, no power steering, bald as fk tires, shot to crap steering rack, but i fken loved driving it, taught you how to get the most out of a bare bones piston engine. the only reason we got rid of it was we had too many cars, it was bulletproof, reliable as hell and super rugged, i called it 'The turtle'. it was at about 445k kms when we gave it to the kidney foundation iirc,

looking more into it i found these awesome JDM 80's ads all filmed in the rockies here, probably near banff or jasper haha

and i did pull doriftus with the 4wd on in the snow every chance i got when i was 16 lol there are also surprisingly alot of off-road vids of these things on youtube

It even had dead struts,.. in high school I used to play with the gas and brake and get the front end bouncing,.. LOL

soooooo bad,.. every corner during lunch my buddies had to tilt their drinks to keep them from spilling,.. so surprised it never rolled over with amount of body roll it had.

LOL

The '99 Chevy Cavalier Z24 that I bought a few years ago. On paper, my '02 VW Golf should be the slowest, but this Cav is fairly painful. I still drive it as a winter and errands car

definitely my 1998 Infiniti QX4 - put out a paltry 180hp for its weight

LOL... Of all cars I've drove, the one I remember being the slowest was my mom's 1981 black Mustang coupe with 4 cyl with auto shift. That damn car had barely any power in there! When my mom brought it the day - to my shock when she told me what engine it had. I told her "you didn't! - serious?" and I then tried to explain her that it's not worth the money to keep the engine in running shape since there were already enough reviews and reports to show the 4 cyl engines of the first 3 years (1979-82) weren't that good.

Of course - she didn't believe me ... I was 17-ish at that time, lol. I said to mom," Fine, it's your car, mom - wait and you'll see why"

Like I knew... after a couple of years later and some few hundred bucks spent on engine, mom come to me and admit that I was right. She sold it away to one of her friends.

I had took that car for a few trips and man, it was so SLOW! I've had the pedal to floor and the best I had got up to 90 kmH tops!

The second slowest car was the '88 Nissian Micra 4-door - darn slow but it sure was a great winter car!
