Heh, I did that a couple years ago when I was living in BC and was mad about having to have a front license plate, so I used an old headlight motor and a switch:

Nothing too spectacular, but it worked!

I often wondered what it would cost to do an entire vehicle's glass with lcd film.
Hit a switch and you have instant security when parked or adjustable when driving.

Was there not a manufacturer in the past that incorporated this or similar technology into one of their vehicles?

Also, "smart film" would be a similar option

That sure would be nice for the speed on green cameras.

I am sure you could rig a radar detector with GPS that has speed trap/red light camera warnings to trigger this too.

So do any of you actually think you have enough time to safely flip a switch as you speed through a yellow, a red or a speed on green?

Just what we need...more ricer distractions.

Maybe hit the switch before.. What about laser jammers you gotta hit a switch for those are those ricer distractions?

There is no switch to hit on laser jammers, they run until they are hit then you turn off but you don't need to turn on.

scat, count me in for whatever you get, give me a call!

You'd need something that would react fast enough to the initial camera flash. You'd also need something that would be accurate enough not to dim your plate every time someone flashed their brights at you, or when an emergency vehicle was approaching with strobes from the rear.

If you're paying attention enough to hit a switch as you go through the camera, you're probably just better off to slow for the intersection camera and speed up again afterwards. In the case of the vans, just be more aware of your surroundings - slow for the vans, speed up when you're well ahead of them.

I posted about these a while ago in a radar thread. Tricplate makes one in the NA size.

Tricplate. It uses an electronic film that can be darkened at the flip of a switch.

Isn't it illegal to have a plate cover like that at all even if its clear?

And you still see tons of people with the basic crappy tire clear or yellow ones. Doubt anyone would take a second glance.

I think the only viable alternative is to wire something that can instantly flash at the camera when it picks up voltage from a Photodiode specced for bright flashes.

Check the rear view for cops, hit switch, extend middle finger, pass cam, hit switch again.
Nothing like texting or putting on makeup.

That, or just do the speed limit and don't run red lights.
